Do you use textures from photos at all? The detail is truly astounding, and I really love the sketch-like nature that accentuates movement and the feeling of raw presence. I am SUPER happy to see other artists work in black and white!

Nope, no photos except for some reference. A lot of that detail comes down to me
1. Using a 1 px brush to scribble in details.Β
2. Shrinking down the image to this resolution, which helps compress and blend the brushstrokes.Β
3. And maybe adding a noise filter.Β
A few little cheats, but it helps achieve that final detailed look.

I am not able to say if it looks chinese because of a mix between the Asian and the Western concepts, or because its face looks actually Asian!!!
