Hey everyone! Here is a little fan art of my favorite game I played back in my younger years. No joke, I played the crap out of this game.Anyways, this was something unexpected but extremely fun to do. It started out as a rush of nostalgia, a quick sketch of Spyro ([link] ) and then I finished it up. I know I was always a bit sadistic in this game, chasing down and burning every single sheep, chicken, gnorc, and flower in the game and nothing would catch fire. The little pyro and murderous side of me wasn't happy with that, so here you have half of Artisans on fire all for a damn butterfly...
Also, just right now writing that sentence I noticed the connection between Spyro's name and pyro. Fuuuuu...

This is absolutely fucking gorgeous, if that Spyro film wasn't cancelled, I'd say that they should have hired you as the concept artist

Damn that would have been awesome if they actually made the movie, but it looks likes they made Skylanders instead. I can't say I am disappointed since he is still around, but I swear none of the Spyro series have nailed his look since the first three games. I love that look.

Skylanders is fun and I don't regret buying Spyro's Adventure through Swap Force, I just hate how Activision saw the film as 'unnecessary' and booted it. While I also love the Skylanders series, the one thing that I don't like about it is how it isn't a 'Spyro' game anymore... rather, it's just a game that happens to have Spyro in it. As for the designs, I like them all but I wish that we could take on a design for him where he looks like a legitimate reptilian creature (like the one you made here). Even in the original trilogy, I always thought that the designers could have made him more "dragon-like" but I guess they don't want to abandoned his cartoony expressions... I guess it makes him more relatable to kids or something 
If you're interested, I made a Spyro movie poster a long time ago when the film was cancelledΒ Β to show what we probably could have had . You're very welcome, I like how you take creatures with a cartoon-like makeup and give them a believable look

if Spyro had looked like this in Skylanders I might have considered that the game wasn't a joke afterall and the developers actually cared about Spyro. He had so much potential after The Legend of Spyro and they just threw that away.

I remember Spike's arena as a boss in one of the Spyro games, maybe the second one, Ripto's Rage,Β but I am probably wrong. Also, thank you so much for all the praise and I am so glad I could make fans like you happy with my rendition.

I LOVED this game as a kid. I played probably the first 3-4 games that came out. They got progressively worse after the first 2-3. Considering how cute and lovable he was in the games, I think it's kind of neat to see a more mature, more realistic approach to what lil spyro probably looked like.

I way agree, when it went to the ps2 the game just lost a lot of it's charm and aesthetics by going the more serious route. Oh well.

WOW, that looks VERY realistic! Its kinda funny though, he still looks kinda cute. I guess it must be the tiny dragon thing he still has. I've always found it funny how the other much larger dragons never really could/did crap lol.

Thanks a lot Carnie, it takes a lot of time, practice, hard work, and patience but if you keep at it then eventually you'll get there.

I have to stick to my own way, because I'm too chaotic to use references properly. Instead I look at things, photos and art pieces, study basic principles and ways of stylization, and then rebuild that in my head. Or rather on a sketch layer, and then another and another... making a lot of lines and choosing the curviest and most natural ones. For me, it's a bit like sculpting. I see what comes out unnatural and adjust it. My brain capabilities are not enough yet to build things on the spot, that's what I need to improve. After all, I'm self-taught and never liked references anyway

I am self taught too and that is same way I work though I have started studying a lot more recently.
