Description
The leaves on the grown up trees have all been plucked by the wind . But their children still light up the winter forest with bright burnt-sienna colored leaves . Some plants decide not to shed their dead leaves , but to keep them until springtime . This is called "marcescence" Trees that do this is sometimes called everciduous . Science is not yet sure why some plants do this , possibly to protect their next buds .
