Description I got asked in comments and some notes what program and how I go at creating pixel art/animations.

While I AM a professional at it, my techniques don't work for everyone and might differ from what others might qualify as the 'right' way. I learn something everyday, like everyone, and am always open at new techniques and ways to render things.

HOWEVER, I'm looking around at how many would be interested in a video tutorial on Pixel art and Pixel Animation making.

I wrote documents and helped co-workers before so I can no doubt help newcomers and maybe give another insight to Pixel artists. Let me know what you think

I always found pixel art and pixel animation fascinating. Although I haven't been drawing anything for over a year, I might start it up again. Life has been throwing curve-balls lately!

I always wanted to make my own little sidescroller action sequence, and naturally it has to be in pixels. The only way to go!

I am no professional at pixel art.. though I've done quite a bit of pixelling work. Even though I don't really watch/read tutorials to learn from them (as with everything else I'm trying to find my own way.. not always a very efficient way, but it's fun to explore things ^^) I'd be interested in seeing how YOU are working. I'd prefer a "readable" tut instead of a video but this, of course, is your decision. If you make a vid I'm sure gonna watch it.

Oh, and just as a random side note.. I'm using Paintshop Pro 7 I find Photoshop way too bulky for pixel stuff. Maybe I'll give Pro Motion a try. GraphicsGale ain't too bad either. Ever worked with this?

I also found a few tutorials online.. one of which had been made by a former co-worker of mine.

Photoshop is somewhat more mainstream though, hence why I would do it with that. But I rarely do it ALL in Photoshop. Once I've attained part of what I want in it, mainly the sketch, I migrate to Pro-Motion to have better control. Because hoooboy I are you right: PS is NOT made for good pixelpushing. Not for an efficient way of doing retro stuff anyway.

I did consider Graphicsgale at one point, as it allowed for more than 1bit of transparency. The latest pro-motion took care of that and implemented it. But I lost the use for it in the meantime as I found ways around the limitation.

I'm still looking at tutorials to make a plan for this one though. And I have to earn a little living as well. I'm not quite sure when I'll start on it for real, but hopefully it will stay in the realm of 'tutorial' and not become a 'lesson'

Thanks for the encouragement too

True pixel doesn't require more than that single bit of transparency

And there's no need to rush things. You just do this when you find the time for it. I did in no way mean to push you.

I'm looking to make a 2-D fighting game, was gonna use Mugen, so any tips on pixel animation would be greatly appreciated.

If you're not used to animating or creating pixel characters for those games, looking and getting animated GIF images of what was done before is a good way to start and get your foot in the production

i'm hating to make it all in paint x_X

Photoshop can do it. But there is a program called 'Pro-Motion' that is made for pixel-based animation

Well I've worked on sprites before, but it was mostly recoloring or trying to modify pre-existing sprites (Megaman is infamous for that really). I would like to see how it's done from scratch instead. My understanding is you draw lines normally and then adjust from there, which puts me at a disadvantage lol.

There are many ways to proceed.. I'll try and do my best.. I should start to plan out the steps for video purposes then

*bows humbly* Pixel art is still around and still a very efficient way of doing games (and art )

I know what you mean. When people were doing pixel art IDs, I had enormous trouble doing one myself so I got the help of to do the character I had in mind while I worked on the background and text.
