I don't consider antidepressants "drugs" in the same sense as stuff like caffeine, weed, etc.Β If you take what's prescribed and keep your appointments, the point of medicines like that is to maximize normal function, not to enter an altered state.Β A medicine that's right for you makes you legitimately more in control rather than stripping away your self-control.Β Honestly, that's what scares me about alcohol, illegal drugs, etc.: I have NO desire to be anything less than totally in control of my actions.

Yeah exactly! I mean, they're still technically a drug, but it's a type of drug meant to help, it's why it's considered a medicine...
Though some medicine does wack you up like Dramamine? The stuff that's supposed to be for motion sickness? That stuff makes me high af in not a good way physically so I just refuse to take it... and Benadryl (allergies) I can only take one of otherwise it'll make me high too- XP

I canβt take Sudafed because that stuff gives me every bad side effect on the box. I havenβt tried it since I got the anxiety diagnosis and got meds for that, but I am not keen on messing with success. I get what you mean!
The thing with non-medicinal drugs (or misusing prescription ones) is that the goal is to make your body and brain do things they are NOT meant to do, which I am no fan of. In contrast, while I was uneasy at first about my meds, knowing that they are psychoactive, it is a HUGE difference now because as Iβve described it to others, they do not change meβthey just make it easier to push things I KNOW very well are irrational out of the way, and get on with the business of being me as I ought to be. I have never felt SO fully in command of myself and my life as I have for the past fourteen months or so. I have never heard someone who uses things they arenβt properly prescribed, in that manner.
There was a time when my anxiety was at its worst, when I even had to take Xanax short term. But again, by taking it exactly as prescribed, what it did was make me feel *normal,* not loopy. I do not take that now, because my doctor and I determined at a certain point that it had stopped being necessary. And I see no reason to take a stupid risk with my mind by going against that.
(Obviously that excludes marijuana in a medical context, for the same reason. Recreationally...thatβs a different matter.)

I smoke weed because it calms me down and gives me something fun and relatively harmless to do if I'm bored. I also use it as an activity-enchanter (hiking, amusement parks, cinema, swimming, biking etc etc) Sometimes I just go into woods on a sunny summer day and enjoy the nature while smoking a joint.
I drink alcohol to take the edge off and get in the "party feel" if I am at one (All houseparties etc I've been to, majority of people are drinking, sometimes I will be sober and just hangout and socialize for example if I have to drive, work next day, or just dont feel like drinking) I never drink alone to get intoxicated. Love me a cold beer or two after a sauna tho. I am really not a huge drinker and do it maybe once a month. I also dislike how drunk people usually act and hate drunk myself too sometimes (usually the next day, i rarely do anything REAL stupid when drunk but I've made some mistakes...)
I sometimes drop acid (LSD)..... just for the experience I think. I am not seeking any crazy spiritual/religious/whatever experience but I love how the stuff makes me think about myself and my life at different angle. I love how it makes me second-guess things about life, our society and myself. Its almost like taking a step back and just looking atΒ yourself and your ego from an unbiased 3rd perspective. The visuals and colors are also stunning and usually leave me taking very deep breaths just because of how overwhelming it is sometimes. This drug I also love to take in the nature, really makes you feel connected to it in a weird and unexplainable kind of way. I can spend several hours just appreciating everything and thinking how beautiful and fascinating trees/plants/insects/birds etc etc are.
I have also tried cocaine and speed which only lead to fiending on the substance in the course of the evening. They are both 100% not worth for me to do and I dont think I will ever try them again. Theyre party drugs and only real party drug for me is alcohol and sometimes weed (when it doesnt cause anxiety). Both of these are also highly addictive and really bad for you. Also the fact that you can actually take too much and, well, fucking die kind of puts me off. You can totally overdose and die from alcohol as well but It is definitely waaay harder and I think most people (who are not alcoholics) would probably pass out and throw up if they "tried" to drink themselves dead. I'm not saying alcohol is not dangerous or way worse for you than many illegal drugs but it is definitely safer than cocaine or (street)amphetamine.
Oh, also I've eaten Psilocybe mushrooms which gave me a really natural and organic high. My dose was too small (for me, my friend tripped from the same amount while I just got intense headspace and no visuals/hallucinations, drugs and especially psychedelics are funny like that, they affect each person differently) so it was definitely underwhelming but kind of neat at the same time. Similar to LSD (both psychedelics/hallucinogens) but different by nature.
I have a job, I have a lot of friends and good relationship with my family, so its not like I'm a junkie of any sort. I like to think my life is pretty decent if not good.
Anyways this is just me explaining why do *I* do drugs. You said you dont understand why people would do them but I hope this gave you some idea, even though its just a story of one person.
EDIT: sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes, english is my third language. I hope you are able to understand it somehow though.

Thanks for not blowing up in my face like many people that take drugs do. I appreciate that.
I do understand that people experiment a lot with things, especially drugs, before they fully settle down and have a family.Β
Do you understand that there can be dangers and side effects to smoking weed and other drugs?
I wouldn't swim while intoxicated on a drug though, lots of people have nearly drowned because of it (well here in the UK anyway) so be careful with that.
I'd actually say weed and alcohol are on par with one another, alcohol usually impacts people more physically and weed impacts more mentally, I'm actually glad that at least on it illegal, if I had a choice, I'd want alcohol illegal (or at least more controlled) like in places like Sweden, where the government control the alcohol.
a lot of drugs impact everyone differently, weed actually makes my brother very paranoid (when high), and when he's having withdrawal he becomes violent, but I have a friend that smokes it and he's fine (but I'm not around him all the time like I am with my brother so I don't know too much)
I think what a lot of people don't realise is how most drugs are "organic" and come from plants etc
At least you're able to admit it, usually only stoners brag about how good weed is, if someone shares their experience with other types of drugs they're usually just called "dirty druggies".
do you have children? would you quit drugs when you become a parent?
and thanks for sharing, although I'm against drugs, I don't mind hearing other people's sides to stories (unless they just start arguing with me)
and you're english was fine, I understood it all.

I have researched almost every substance I've tried pretty well beforehand and understand the risks.
I mostly swim in pools which is safer. Never alone tho.
Id say alcohol is a way stronger drug than weed for most people. Personally it affects me mentally more than weed AND physically as well. Β No matter how much I smoke (as in, a gram, two or three, not retarded amounts like pounds) it never makes me more intoxicated than drinking say 12 beers which is something I would drink on a night out, more or less. My judgement on alcohol is waaay more impaired than on weed and it can sometimes lead to conflicts/other problems. But again, people are different and I've seen my friends go full stupid after a hit or two (tolerance plays a big role as well)
"Organic" and "natural" drugs are things like cannabis, mushrooms, natural coca leaves, morning glory seeds. Just because its natural does not mean its safe though. But most of these tend to be less dangerous than synthetic drugs like powdered cocaine and crack, heroin, meth, etc etc.
Not all synthetic drugs are instant addicted/dead kind of stuff. There are many which are physically safe with no real (physical) addictiveness like LSD (half-synthetic though), MDMA (basically the psychoactive ingredient in ecstasy pills, but in pure form, pills are usually filled with amphetamines or fillers and can be dangerous).
I dont have kids as I'm only 20 but I would probably not use drugs around them until they are young adults and not sure if even then. I have no idea how the world will change, maybe weed will be legalized? Maybe they end the whole war on drugs? Who knows. I would never want my child to use drugs though. Adults can make their own decisions but kids, no. Not to mention it drugs are way worse for you if your brain/body hasnt fully developed yet.

At lest you seem sensible about it, there are too many people that take drugs and know hardly anything about the drug.
There are even idiots that say Weed isn't a drug or isn't addictive.Β
It usually takes more than a few tries of a drug to get addicted, I'd rather people smoke tobacco and weed than take cocaine or heroine though.
I'd rather a world without drugs, and I'm happy that weed isn't legal (But I do think using it for medicine is okay) I think if weed becomes legal, more people will use it or flaunt about it - or do things like drive or go to work while high. People with alcoholic family members are against alcohol, I'm pretty much the same but instead of alcohol it's weed.
But yeah, if adults want to try something they can, as long as they're not "in your face" about it. I think we need to at least spread more awareness to children of the effects drugs have. (especially weed and alcohol, since they're the biggest consumed drugs)

One pretty major difference is that alcohol kills millions of people annually. I dont know how many alcoholics/heavy drinkers would swap to weed but the death rates would most likely go down since its impossible to die from marijuana. Weed is definitely mentally addictive though not even near hard drugs which also cause psychical addiction (people have been reported to die from opiate withdrawals)
People who smoke and are irresponsible already do those things but you are right, the numbers could rise.
I think the way they (at least here, and pretty sure its same everywhere) teach kids about dangers of drugs is wrong. For example I, like everyone else was told in middle and high school that weed is bad, weed is terrible and it turns you into a loser etc etc. It caught my interest and I read a lot of information about it on the internet. Then eventually when I tried it I really felt like I was lied to in school. They lied about weed, wonder what else ? Well, turns out they lied about a lot of other drugs too, but since I have made enough unbiased research on most common drugs, I understood which ones are life destroying and which are incredible and safe to use if you have half a brain. Imagine if some kid would just be like "hey, this weed thing didnt fry my brain maybe i should try smoking meth next i bet they lied about that too!". He would be partly right, anti drug campaigns always exaggerate the risks, and while it scares most kids away from drugs, it can cause a situation like this. However, obviously smoking meth is extremely bad for you and highly addictive.

It is possible to OD on weed, but you'd have to smoke a lot, and would probably knock yourself out before you consumed that much.
They didn't teach us about weed in any school I went to (and neither taught my friends who went to other schools) but they did teach us about alcohol, tobacco and hard drugs.Β
I'd rather people not take drugs at all, or if they do, be aware of the negative sides as well as the positive. If you go onto posts about weed, you'll see idiot stoners, and some even encouraging others to move onto other drugs.Β
I know anti drug campaigns tend to over exaggerate, if I have something to tell someone, I usually give examples from life experiences I've had on a certain drug (not me personally taking it though).
But in the fight to get things legalised, they create things like "legal highs" which turn out to be even more dangerous - I don't know if you know about legal highs.

You would have to smoke several pounds of it if in a very short period of time if I remember correctly. It is "possible" but its not doable because you will indeed pass out. Or die due to lack of oxygen.
I know there is legal weed (k2, spice) which is really easy to OD on and is much different from actual cannabis in all ways. Also I am pretty sure its usually in powder form so not sure why its called legal/synthetic weed.

I have never done drugs and I will never do drugs. Other than the psychiatricΒ meds that are prescribed to me by a licensed psychiatrist. I need those because I have Anxiety Disorder, and I am prone to anxiety outbursts because of it. Heck, even WITH my meds, I sometimes have outbursts. But with my meds, they happen less often and are less intense when they do happen. If I didn't need my meds, I wouldn't take them, and the only reason I don't go off them just because they are classified as drugs (of the medical/psychiatric sort) is because I am afraid of what I might do in my outbursts without my meds. I'm afraid that I might injure myself, or worse, someone else. Other than that, I will never in my life consume any mind-altering substances.
