Description Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) [link]

Mum and Dad have a small aviary at the back of the house in which they keep Indian Ring-Necks [link] Budgies [link] Cockatiels [link] and Lovebirds [link] Naturally with all the bird seed that builds up (Despite how much the aviary is cleaned), mice are attracted. We have found a novel way of disposing of the dead mice that are caught in the traps laid out for them. A family of Kookaburras live nearby in the trees, and they eat the mice. In fact, they can be seen gathering, ready and hoping for a feed whenever Dad goes into the aviary.
