“We were investigating tax fraud! TAX FRAUD!” Ashley Hamrick fumed on the belt, feeling her equally frustrated friend struggle against her back. “How the FUCK did this manage to go so far sideways?”

“You know, for once, I was one hundred percent on board with this? You didn’t bring up killer robots, human experimentation, or ANY of the usual hysteria you try to sell me about my employer.” Adrianne fidgeted as she looked at the statements piled up around them, all ready for disposal. “Who would have thought we were covering up that much revenue. I mean, jeez, I know some of it was coming from the wrong places but good LORD, the IRS is not going to like this.”

”And they won’t EVER have to find out about it.” Juliana O’Mara’s voice clacked over the intercom. ”So what if we’ve funded a coup here, a robot uprising there, or maybe took a few bribes from a scant few foreign officials? That’s just the cost of doing business, am I right girls?”

“She’s actually way scarier than the IRS, Adz. Hate to say it. Guarantee they don’t have one of these bad boys.” Ashley gestured to the horrifying little number at the end of the conveyor-the LlamTech ‘document shredder’. A small force of gear motors powered to life, and its spiked rollers of death slowly began to pick up speed-ready to completely annihilate anything that went through its teeth. “Oh, great. We’re moving now. The conveyor belt is moving. This is cool.”

“Y-you’ve got a plan, right? H-hey, Miss O’Mara!” Adrianne turned her head up to the intercom above. “We don’t have to do this, right? I mean, it’s in my best interests to keep quiet about all this, right?” Nervous laughter entered her tone. “Tax fraud? What fraud? Everything is accounted for, yeah? We didn’t see anything!”

”Oh, how I wish we could do things like that, Miss Olson-but you know how this has to go down. Gag them.” Several pairs of drones swooped in to plaster microfoam tape over the girls’ mouths. “I’m sure we can name a parking lot after you in memoriam. Maybe a software OS. You’d like that, right?”

“Thhmmm mmhh mhmfhhbhmmmm!” The brunette was starting to shake as she attempted to mouth the tape off. After all these fucking years of service? After helping develop one of their main products? THIS was the thanks she got for helping create the IGII line?!

“Mmmhhhhffgg...” Ashley groaned and began trying for the knots holding them together as they inched ever closer to the shredder. This whole scenario was unbelievable-and there was no way she’d let herself go out like this.
