Description "Greatness should not be based on nobility or gender, but the abilities of the warrior themselves" –Lady Arcana of Nithiel

The bright, hot sun was positioned in the beautiful blue sky like an ornament on a Christmas tree. Beaming on the quaint village, bustling with hard working townspeople, a slight breeze blew gently throughout the village of Nithiel. Not too far from it on top of a slightly steep hill covered with a blanket of green grass sat a castle belonging to the rulers of the land, the Esmeralda family. A small but very strong Kingdom, known for their protection and kindness they've provided. The heirs to the Esmeralda family are-

"AH! Lady Arcana!!!" Miriam, the long-time caretaker of Lady Arcana, the oldest princess. She hollered from the castle, frantically running around like a chicken without a head.

The princess had escaped again…

Lady Arcana is a kind, fearless girl that has the qualities of a great queen, if only she didn't run away from her lessons…

Though she was older and therefore, automatically position her for next in-line for the throne. Some people thought otherwise, they thought the younger sis Princess Kiure was more suited, as she was polite, well-mannered, kind and responsible. Other then being kind and having a similar appearance, the two princesses are opposites.

"Where did that girl go?!? Geez, the minute I mention that there's a ball tonight, the frivolous girl jumps out of the window!" The caretaker sighs while shaking her weary head, unknown to her, only a few feet away a cloaked figure made it's way to the village. The ends of the white cloak were dirty, ripped and worn, showing that the person wore it a lot.

"Where do you think your going, chicka?" a male voice suddenly called out.

Whipping around, the cloaked figure pulled out one of the two daggers with great speed. Feeling the cold metal in front of his throat, the young man stiffened.

"Oi! Look at the person your doing that to!"

As he said this, the eyes that were hidden by the hood of the cloak trailed up to look at the face of the young man whose life she had in her hands. The gleaming blade against his neck, a little jerk, and his vocal cords would be severed for good. After looking at the slender young man, his dirty blonde locks neatly combed, forest green eyes stared at the dagger, dressed in a simple white dress shirt and charcoal black pants, he would look just like a really handsome villager. If you didn't notice the Eilssek royal family crest on the sword that was resting on his hip.

"Sho…?" The hooded figure questioned with a female voice, retracting the white dagger, putting it back in it's sheath.

"So, I heard that the royal ball tonight is going to be really great, isn't that right…Arcana?"  He said in a sly voice, a grin showed on his face.

His slim cream-colored head lightly pushed away the hood, revealing the face of the young rebel princess. Her long brown lair cascading around her face in a messy way, but it seemed to fit her personality. Her eyes, the color of the sky, stared at him with apathy at the mentioning of the ball.

"Sho, do I HAVE to go? It's so boring! Miriam is going to try to dress me up!" She whined at her childhood friend.

"Yes you do, you're the oldest princess of Nithiel!" He explained gropping the girl's cloak, dragging the pleading girl back to the castle, where she and Miriam had a battle for Arcana to put on dress. After much struggle, Lady Arcana walked out of her room into the large hall where the ball was being held. Her light blue, off-the-shoulder dress hugged her body and suited her, though secretly having shorts underneath.

"S-sister!" A light voice came from the crowd of nobles that were chatting, her sky blue eyes saw the petite figure, clad in a long pink dress that the girl was trying to hold up so she wouldn't fall while running. Locks of hair the color of the sun trailed behind her, slightly curly from the heat of summer.

"Kiure! Haven't seen you in awhile!" The brunette remarked in delight, obviously overjoyed to see her dear sister, her dear twin sister…

"Well, you haven't seen me because you always skip lessons! Your not acting like an older sister Arc!" The normally timid girl scolded her sister, a funny sight indeed.

"Lessons are so bor~ing!!! I don't know how you put up with them! That's why I don't want to become queen!" The mischievous girl stated, putting her hands behind her head observing her sister giggling at Arcana's imitation of their instructor. Once she let her hands drop to her sides, Arcana's hand instinctively patted both sides of her hips where normally her twin daggers rested, to find that they weren't there.

"Eh? Excuse me Kiu, I'll be back in a minute!!" She told the blonde quickly before dashing into her room for her beloved daggers. Only moments after her leave, the windows of the large building shattered. The glass scattering everywhere, startling
the nobles, a few woman in the back started to scream and shriek as men in black garb emerged from the opening that used to be a window.

"W-what? W-who are you?" Kiure commanded, though stuttering in the process making her attempt at a commanding voice useless. The men looked at her, almost studying her as if she was an animal in a cage. The biggest guy, appearing to be the leader of the operation, nodding his head to the other numerous men. Suddenly, two men that wore black grabbed Princess Kiure, "No! Save me, Sister!!" Trying her best to get away from the weird men she kicked, screamed, she would keep on screaming even if her throat ran dry. At that moment, hearing Kiure's scream, Arcana appeared with her twin daggers at hand except she didn't expect for the men in black to be so fast. Jumping out of the entrance from which they came from, with the screaming blonde princess in their hands. Arcana could feel her blood boil, she was more then just simply angry, she was enraged!! 'How dare they!!!'  Following them out of window she looked around, her ears perked up when she heard a voice, stealthily she hid in the bushes, trying to overhear what they were saying.

"Master Ratch will be so pleased that we have the girl." One of the weird men said

'Ratch? Who the heck his that?' The brunette thought as she now smirked, now with the knowledge of who those goons were working for, she knew who do go after. All she needed to do was to do some research on this 'Ratch'. The next day she went to work, studying in the castle's librarian, Sho had dropped by.

"Hey Arc, what are you researching?" He asked looking over her shoulder curious to what she was reading, she only read when either there was an emergency of some kind and she needed to research or when she was REALLY bored.

"Sho, do you know about someone named Ratch?" She asked, looking up from the text she was reading, the male could tell from her eyes that she barely slept, looking for any clues where her sister was. As soon as Ratch's name lodged into his mind though, he froze, his green eyes widening.

"W-what did you say? RATCH?!? Ratch is the Great Dark Demon!!" He exclaimed to her, alerting her right away as she stood up in front of him. "You know where he is?!?" she demanded from him grabbed the collar of his white dress shirt.

"Well ya, everyone knows where he lives, just we've never actually seen a reason to go there." He answered her, she could see the fire in her eyes, he saw her resolution.

"Well now we do!! That damn 'Dark Demon' has got my sister!! He's got hell to pay!!" She pointed out, rushing out of the Librium back into her room, changing and packing.
Coming out, decent in black shorts, a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up, black and white boots that reached right underneath her knee. Pieces of metal from armor that soldiers and knights wore clung to her petite body. Adjusting her black fingerless gloves she noticed Sho leaning against the stone wall, titling her head, and fixing the old pouch attached to her brown belt. Taking light steps over to the 17 year old male, he noticed this and a smile graced his face and nodded his head, leaning his body forward patting her head he put a blue bandanna on her head. "I'm coming with you, you don't even know where his castle is, so you need someone to take you there, and who knows what you'll do out there." He taunted, earning him the blue eyes to roll at him. Setting off to go get Kiure back, the duo traveled from villages to places that are in the middle of nowhere. Until finally, after long days and weeks of traveling they were near their destination.

"W-what, is this?" Lady's Arcana's voice was shaky, as she gazed at the village that belongs to the Great Dark Demon. The village was filled with a chilly atmosphere mixed with emotions of suffering, sadness; several houses were wrecked by who knows what? Mothers who tried desperately to feed there children, men out of jobs were either drinking in bars, sick, or dead. The children didn't have playful habits, didn't giggle or even smile they were dirty and depressed with loneliness all over there small faces. Never did Arcana ever see a child not laughing, smiling or running around just being a simple minded child.

"It seems that even though The Great Dark Demon is powerful, he doesn't take care of his people, it feels like he runs away from his responsibilities" Sho whispered to her, that last sentence repeated in her mind, flashbacks from when she was in the palace flashed by.

'Running away…from responsibilities…'
She realized that what she had been doing, running away from her lessons, running away from her responsibilities as a princess…She felt so ashamed. Arcana's hand clenched in a tight fist, as her teeth gritted against another. She didn't want to be like this, she wants to change, not only herself but she wants to change this village into a place these people can finally call 'Home'!

Readying her twin daggers, one black, the other white, they were her balance…her good and evil. She dashed towards the entrance of the castle, her resolution stronger than before, not only was she going to save her sister. She was going to save those villagers from Ratch's grasp and start learning the true weight of responsibility. Her moves swift and elegant, as if she was dancing. With the assistance of Sho, they fought off the guards one by one. Arcana was so concentrated on fight the men that were in front of her that she never notice the man that came up behind her, until it was too late.

Stab!

"Guh!" was the sound that could be heard from the Lady's mouth, as she threw up blood. Wiping the corner of her mouth of any excess blood, her blue eyes glancing at the side of her stomach. Covered in an ocean of crimson, the pain was immense, one or two ribs were most likely broken from the impact and she knew that if she wasn't treated in two hours time, maybe even less she would be done for. Struggling to get up, the feisty princess stubbornly fought to walk down the dark corridor of the huge dark, castle. Looking back she could see her childhood friend fighting the guards that were there. Trying to keep them back so the brunette had enough time to get to the final door which leads to Kiure.

"Kiu…re"

She breathed hard, stretching her bruised and cut up arms out to push the giant doors, they were as cold as the whole castle. Struggling to push it, the door to her surprise opened, but it wasn't Arcana that opened it. It had come from the inside, her eyes glared at whoever it was; she was ready to face whatever kind of awful monster the Great Dark Demon was. Once the door fully opened revealing a young boy, dressed in fine black robes, Arcana was completely stunned, he was a young boy, around the same age as her, pretty face and here he is in place of the Great Dark Demon! Shaking her head she noticed Kiure in the background passed out, flicking her wrist which charmed the dagger to move in that direction, almost cutting the strange boys shoulder.

"Oh~! Your very feisty aren't you? Well then let's play!" He exclaimed in a sing-song voice, definitely not her imagery of 'Dark Demon', Arcana controlled her daggers with the chains that were attached from their handles to the wrist of her gloves. The boy, the so called 'Great Dark Demon' used magic to deflect most of her hits, still managing to receive some hits from the daggers.

It had already been half an hour since the battle started, it seemed as though the more time past the weaker Arcana got, this was bad…REALLY bad. She needed to finish quickly.

Arcana twitched from the pain of her previous wound, she growled at his powerful magic, where does he get his strength he had? Her eyes taking in her surroundings, she looked for any source of power, her mom always said that mages usually have something with them to keep their power in tact. Her eyes then targeted on a violet orb, sitting proudly on a table right next to the Demon's throne.

Bingo!

Running up to it, she directed her daggers to it in one thrust, damaged it, she kept on hitting it, damaged wasn't good enough. Trying to break it before the Demon could get to her, he casted magic spells, one after another in an attempt to stop her from hitting his power source. Through the pain she still kept on going, despite the heavy injury already done to her body. It seemed like the tenth strike before finally the orb broke, making the young-looking boy drop to the ground.

"I…see…you really are strong, if my dim-witted lackeys kidnapped you instead, my plan would have been different..." He said before passing out from sudden stop of magic energy, leaving the girl with a confusing question before she too passed out. Later that night the royal guards of the Eilssek Kingdom, called by Prince Sho came and picked up the twin princesses and their prince.

The King and Queen of Nithiel were so glad to have their two daughter's back, and were proud of what Lady Arcana had done. Giving her more respect from the people.
