great work and progress... was a lot of work i guess...
although the searchbox appears to me like a unnatural misplaced object on the left bottom in LHstartmenu...
(in general, not just in your work)
but it's a 3rdparty startmenu on win8, right?
maybe the box can be placed on right side above the log-off pane?

It's Windows 7's start menu as it still exists in Windows 8 (though not 8.1) though you have to get StartIsBack which is a few dollars, and considering it's not going to work in 8.1 makes getting it an iffy idea.
As for the search box, I understand what you're saying, had Longhorn continued instead of being cancelled though, I imagine it would've been just like that though. It looked a bit out of place in 5048 even though it had the XP layout, but still located in the same spot.
