Description Sorry for the blurry photo. Low light in the shop thanks to all the snow lately and all. Hard to tell because of the image quality, but the little heron on the grip is 3D and cast in bronze. The bronze inset diamond piece on the scabbard also has a heron etched onto it. There's also a heron etched on the blade, but the pictures of the blade were all too blurry to use. Really need to save up some cash for a huge light box or something

How I'd love to have one of these hanging at my hip...

I know other people are also suggesting lightbox ideas, but I'll throw in my 2 cents. Personally I would make a budget lightbox with some PVC and Visqueen (or other semi-opaque plastic sheeting). It would even assemble together pretty quickly.

I've watched your blades for a long time, they should have great photos to show off how amazing they are!

Something along the lines of how I've always imagined Tam's sword. Beautiful.

Perfectly nailed the Wheel of Time sword look, just as I imagined, except i always thought the herons were etched on the blade too, but this still is glorious.

That's exactly what I thought! Not sure if it was the original intent though? So cool!

P.S. Did you take any of the specs of the sword before you shipped it to the customer, and, if so, could you post them please?

Didn't take any specs, unfortunately. Was a pretty big guy though.

I like how the pommel is sort of like the dragon's fang! Just how I imagined it in the book! I think this is your best "warder" sword yet! One question: Is the blade double edged near the tip like your fishtail warder, as it seems, from looking at the other pictures that you posted, that there is a central ridge (with a diamond-shaped cross section near the guard) rather than the spine of most single edged blades?

LongshipArmoury In reply to jomak222 [2013-03-16 02:23:05 +0000 UTC]

No sharpened false edge on the blade. Also doesn't really have a ridge. That's more of a trick of the lighting. It's a full convex grind.

We weiil wwait for new pictures of the blade. It really sounds like it is worth it.

Unfortunately, the customer already has the sword, so we'd have to see if he takes any pictures to share. Here's a picture of the sword before the heron was etched on the blade. Basically complete though besides that: [link]

If only insurance wasn't so expensive in the US, I could open an interactive sword museum! XD

However as a Canadian we have healthcare, plus we don't sue people for not stopping us from doing something stupid.

Is it just me, or is the picture kind of blurry?

Great sword though.

Yeah, it's pretty blurry. Heavy snow lately meant that we were stuck taking photos in the forge with low light before we shipped it to the customer.

If all you need is better pictures, a white sheet and some sort of stand or blocks to hold up the subjects is real easy to do.

Normally not much of an issue since we take the photos outdoors, but with all the snow lately, we've been stuck taking photos in the forge. Not much lighting or space to use in there. Probably should get better lighting in there but the electrical setup is pretty much full up with machinery already.

You can make a simple impromptu lightbox with some white paper or matboard from a hobby store and table lamps. Would greatly help pictures and its cheap.

LongshipArmoury In reply to kintexu2 [2013-02-26 21:20:09 +0000 UTC]

Mostly just have to figure out where I'd set it up. Fairly cramped in the shop with few outlets, and those materials do tend to be a bit too flammable to be sitting around the forge

Was that sword theme taken from the Wheel of Time books? I remember that main character used some kind of heron sword.
I like that dark look very much.

LongshipArmoury In reply to Astalo [2013-02-26 21:23:34 +0000 UTC]

Aye, the customer's order was inspired by the heron-mark swords from the books. Tried to go for a more classy, subdued look than the typical fantasy look other renditions seem to take though.

Pretty broad saber without fullers.

I'll say. If it wasn't so broad, I'd say it was katana, but as I said the blade is too broad.
