There was an unexpectedly disheartened sigh when they sat and stared at the open and naked, untouched beauty of the nature before them.
Joe cast a sideways glance at Irie. She was beautiful, but a dangerous and complicated type of beautiful that only the rarest people could tap into. She stared at the pale sky around the sun as he studied her shrunken pupils, dilated from the light. He studied her shimmering coat and mane, and her curved horn. She looked like a glass doll. Quiet, and pristine.
"What's wrong?"
She didn't respond at first, for so long he wondered if she had even heard him speak.
"Don't you ever just wanna run away?"
He laughed softly, which sent a tinge of pain in her chest. Why was he laughing at her?
Joe shook his head, strands of warm brown hair falling to rest on his face.
"Yeah," He looked at her with an emotion in his green eyes that danced with hers. "Every damn day, princess."Β

Not really dialogue, but a spur of the moment:
The wind was softly blowing across the fields, as the pair made their way through the knee-high grass. The birds fell silent as the two started talking, as if wanting to hear the things they would say. Joe took a deep breath, feeling the fresh air in his lungs. "Isn't it pretty?" The words exited his mouth together with his breath, getting carried away with the wind.Β
Irie smiled at him, her eyes taking in the calm that had fallen over her friend. Just like him, she liked the atmosphere of "outside". Moving her eyes over to the scenery, she answered him. "Yes, it really is. So different from the streets of Canterlot, so... quiet." She closed her eyes, ears twitching to catch the sounds, or rather, the lack of sounds. No chattering, no shouting. No stomping of hooves or rattling of papers and quills. No responsibilities.
"Couldn't agree more. Feels good getting away for some time, doesn't it?" It was more a statement than a question. Both of the friends had lately felt the grip of stress, and without really admitting it, they had hinted to each other that they wanted to get away. In the end, they had decided to visit the outskirts of Canterlot, far from responsibility and stress. Irie gave herself the freedom to leave her duties be, and Joe was his own boss. The busy world would keep going even if they were gone a few hours.
Joe shook himself, letting the wind properly blow through his mane. A few loose strands fell into his eyes, but for once, he didn't bother to fix it. A calm and comfortable silence fell between the two of them, and they kept venturing trough the field, moving with no goal or purpose. Quiet, for once.
...
This is based around the calm and nostalgic feeling the picture gave me, and even though I feel their characters are different when you describe them, Lop, I also have seen many people change completely when they get a proper moment of silence. I imagine both Irie and Joe has a lot to do when life is at its busiest, and that this brings them to cherish the moments they have when they don't need to care.
Beautiful as always, really inspiring, as you can see.

Truthfully, I think Iridesence should have warmer colors. It's the same problem with Celestia. Right now, Iri looks more like a moon goddess than anything to do with the sun. It's a beautiful design, but doesn't really fit her theme.

lop stated that irie would be switched from a princess of the sun to princess of light, since celestia nor chrysalis have warm colors in them and it makes more sense visually ^-^

I have the feeling towards G1 the same I have towards the original Mirage Comics version of TMNT: I appreciate it for getting the ball rolling, but what came after is so, SO much better.
That's why I'm wary about G5 in 2020. I want them to keep the somewhat mature tone of G4, but something tells me they are gonna go back to the more dumbed-down style of G1.

Lopoddity In reply to GokuMartin [2018-07-05 01:27:46 +0000 UTC]
Personally, I love G1, and I think it was a pretty impressive girl cartoon for 80's fare- it had actual conflict, action and adventure, cool creature designs, a broad array of female characters with an assortment of personalities, lessons and morals, and didn't patronize young girls with vapid talk of boy crushes and caring for babies. Mlp:FiM builds more on it, but the original laid very significant framework for it to exist (how many cartoons are there with an all female cast, or even a girl protagonist? G1 was doing that shit more than thirty years ago). G1 also had that high fantasy theme that I really wish FiM stuck to more consistently.
As long as G5 follows the core foundation of MLP (to provide a good, three-dimensional show for little girls), then I'm sure it'll be amazing~

I am personally very sceptical about the new MLP. It's gonna be really scary seeing twilight as a earth pony with a completely different voice. It's also gonna be scary having the Alicorn families maybe not there. FLUFFY HEART NOOOOOOOO

GokuMartin In reply to Lopoddity [2018-07-05 01:52:58 +0000 UTC]
Maybe so, but G1 was a lot less mature and lot more sappy than G4, which is why haters have their attitude towards G4 (because they still remember G1 from the 80s).
G1 was always, alongside "Care Bears", "The Smurfs" and "Sesame Street", a punchline about extremely sappy TV shows.
G4 is much more mature and has much better writing.
It's a lot like comparing the original "Stargate" movie with SG1: the original movie was dumbed-down, shlocky fare, even if it did have an audience. SG1 was much more mature and better written.

Lopoddity In reply to GokuMartin [2018-07-05 02:03:12 +0000 UTC]
I'll agree to disagree, because I find G1 to be on the whole, less sappy and cutesy than FiM (especially the first few episodes of FiM, which felt especially "dumbed-down")

I love the flatness of this piece! Basically I mean you completely eliminated the third dimension so that the eye doesn't necessarily need to focus on one particular spot imo. don't know if that's what you were going for though XD
BTW i'm colourblind so focus for me = gone lol
