“And Max, the king of all wild things, was lonely and wanted to be where someone loved him best of all.”“But the wild things cried, “Oh please don’t go - we’ll eat you up - we love you so!”
And Max said, “No!”
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws but Max stepped into his private boat and waved goodbye.”
For those who don't know, Maurice Sendak, author and illustrator of "Where the Wild Things Are" passed away yesterday. That book was something that in many ways still influences my art and my love of fantasy. So, this picture is dedicated to Maurice Sendak and all who loved his story as much as I did.
So, this is my goodbye wave to a great artist, happy in the knowledge that his legacy will live on in me and in the hearts of many others.

The highest compliment he said he ever got was from a kid. He sent Sendak a letter saying how much they enjoyed his book. He sent back a letter saying thank you and included a sketch. He got a letter back from the kid's mom that said "Thank you very much for the drawing, my son loved it so much he ate it". A fitting tribute for the creator of the wild things!

Yeah, I was sad when I heard it, but his book has been around for 40 years and is still strong as ever, so I'm sure that his legacy will last. :3
And thank you, I had fun making it! It was nice to try my hand at drawing these guys. If there was more interest, I'd love to design a set of buttons.
