How did you get the transparancy of the drop? Is it because the board is smooth that you can move stuff around easier?

Exactly!
I work it out with a very spiky rubber!You can create a lot of those effects by using very smooth soft pastels.

How did the pastel stay on but not make a mess with the pointy eraser? Are they oil pastels? And how would you erase areas without leaving residual red color in the subtracted areas?
