Description
A friend from the PencilJack Forums commissioned me to draw Dream from Neil Gaiman's SANDMAN. I couldn't help going the extra mile to add in his sister, Death in the composition. Inked this with SuperBlack India ink and a Raphael Kolinsky brush.When drawing Death, I had Zooey Deschanel in mind. I think she'd be great movie casting for Death! I didn't have anyone in particular in mind for Dream, but I was thinking about Edward Scissorhands' hair, which was inspired by the hair of THE CURE's Robert Smith. I seem to remember reading (somewhere) that Tim Burton and Robert Smith were friends.
I did this in one night, while watching a double feature of THE RUNNING MAN and PREDATOR on my computer. Friends kept me alert and motivated via a mic chat, so thanks to them for the excellent company! Zippy, I hope you enjoy the illustration!

Beautiful! the quality is of an high level and the character's are awesome, I love the retro feel and the male character dark feel brings back to my mind things like The Crow, The Cure, David Bowie and more awesome stuff like that, great artwork!

Actually official Sandman's design was inspired by Robert Smith, David Bowie, and Neil Gaiman himself. Your Death is beautiful, although I personally prefer the older comic designs with disheveled hair

O: This is so gorgeous. I love love lov Death's hat and the overall feel. It reminds me of a mixture of a bunch of different eras, like the ancient Greek time combined with the 20's combined with ...? I dunno.

You should open up a commission thing on dA, so people can send you points and get commissioned for it. Lots of people have been doing it, at the end of the month you can convert your points to money and get a check, I believe.

Hey bud, fantastic work on this piece! Sandman was such an incredibly well written and drawn series and you've captured it well. The quirkiness of Death fits perfect with Zooey too, good choice.

I definitely had Zooey Deschanel on the brain, T-K! In my mind, she'd be perfect casting for Death! Didn't really have anyone particular in mind for Dream, except where the hair is concerned. Was thinking about Robert Smith or Edward Scissorhands' hair. I think Tim Burton based Scissorhands' hair on Smith's.
