Description Magician at the Fair

Once upon a time,
There was a man.
A man with a wizard's hat, that is.
I met him at the fair, you see,
A long time ago,
Down in town.
I saw him there
Only once,
But that,
Was enough to remember him.
You see,
This wizardly man
Was quite a sight.
He wore that cloak—
You know, the one with
Every color there is to be.
Amber, scarlet, sapphire, emerald
Amethyst, jade, silver, ebony
Quite a rainbow and some more
But that wasn't all
About this extravagant man.
I'll have to say, his hair was wild,
—as I remember—
White as the moon, if possible,
Maybe whiter.
It would probably give light,
In the darkest of rooms
Don't believe me?
Well there's still much more.
His eyes, you see,
Were the darkest, deepest of greens
Like the plants after rainfall,
Or the scales of a dragon—
Perhaps the color of the fair folk's eyes?
—I'm still not finished.
Around his neck rests a gem on a chain.
A magical stone,
That held all colors,
When the light hit just right,
A rainbow displayed across his face
Like the tapestries in the magistrate's hall,
Or the exploding lights in the midnight sky.
To think that a rainbow
Lay trapped inside that stone—
Magical indeed.
I'm still not done.
In his hand,
Yet lies a mystery.
Or so I thought when I first saw him.
I remember quite clearly,
Those years ago,
As I walked up to that man,
My curiosity about,
To overflow.
Small as I was,
I tugged at the edge of his cloak,
He looked down in surprise at me,
Just a small boy of eight.
There was the old saying,
'Don't talk to strangers for they might bite'
Of course, I planned to stick to that,
To not say a word;
To not speak at all.
So when that man
Bent down to my height,
His white gloved hands, cupped in a sphere,
A faint glow from beneath his fingers
"Are you lost child?"
I remember he said,
I shook my head no,
And pointed to his hands.
He smiled some more,
And chuckled at that.
"Would you like to see something special?"
My eyes just widened.
"I'll take that as a yes, boy?"
I nodded;
Clasped my hands together
Eager to see
What lay in his hands.
Was it some portal to a foreign land?
Or a magical bottle with fairy dust?
Maybe a lost treasure map?
I was certainly about to find out.
I looked to his hands which he slowly began to open,
An unearthly glow
Splashed across his face.
Yet as he did so,
I gasped in delight
At what I saw,
For it was most definitely magical—
What I saw that day.
But I cannot tell.
It's a secret you see,
I promised him,
To not say a word,
But I can tell you this,
I was never the same
After that day
For everything,
I saw
In a different plane.
In those hands,
Was a marvelous thing.
But still, a secret.
…A magical thing.
What happened that day,
All those years ago,
I'll leave up to you.

It has something childish and playful in it. It also reminds me of medieval times and gives me the feeling that it's told out loud, in market, surrounded by hungry ears, in a hushed, whispered voice.

You made me very curious what the wizard held in his hand... But I suppose that's for another story. But don't worry, the ending is fine just as it is.

By the way, you should consider writing a whole story in this style. It's a very pleasant read. And congratulations for it all!

Aw, thank you so much. *u*

Yeah, I kind of imagined it to be some old man or so telling his grandkid or someone of a young age of the encounter when I was writing it. Hah.

But yes, whatever was in his hand is indeed another story~ Hehe.

A whole story in that style? Wah. I would probably find that difficult. Hah.

Thanks so much for the read and fave! It's much appreciated~

It's a pebble!

I honestly thought that he was going to give the boy a pebble. I don't know why.
