Horace can manipulate shadows and souls. If you go to 's deviantart, you'll be able to read up on the specifics. (Horace is his OC in this story)
Basically, Horace can mess with people's shadows, and since, in our story, your shadow is the link between body and soul, he can use that to manipulate souls as well. It's pretty intense, especially when he pulls your soul out from under you and you fall into the ground.
