Entry for 's Brighthelm summer Bonanza 2012 [link]
Attached to the Ottercombe Pony club as -supposedly- a responsible adult Isaac Dampford and Spartan.
Day Two the One Day Event Dressage Phase.
Here's competition newbie Issac (One of John Dampford's older brothers) and Spartan, the Dampford family's big skewbald horse. Despite having been able to ride since before he could walk Isaac has never entered a proper competition before ( The Donkey Derby in aid of the Ottercombe church roof and that ramshackle gymkhana run by the riding school each year don't count!) Isaac isn't comfortable with the formal clothing, he prefers to put on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and just go, without all this formality- which he thinks is a waste of time to be honest-. However, rules are rules and he has his sister Sarah, her friends Veronica and Emily and the Pony Club leader, the formidable, Bridie O'Houlihan on his case. They pretty much bullied him into entering, he was going to go along as a volunteer adult helper to take turns driving the horse box, supervising the kids and looking after the horses. He didn't know that all the girls would force him to enter Spartan in the One day event!
Bridie rummaged out some of her brother's old jackets for him to wear and the girls plaited Spartan's mane and tail so he looked respectable.
Isaac isn't looking too comfortable in that collar and tie, he hasn't worn one since he left school! Generally Blacksmiths don't wear them!
Spartan is an old boy but he's going to have a go, although more used to beach rides and hacks, he isn't adverse to a spot of cross country or jumping. Dressage is a bit new but nothing that Spartan can't do with a bit of thought and planning.
You'll have to wait until I have drawn the other pictures to see how this pair get on in she show ring and on the cross country course.
