Description Here I am, today I've found some time for myself and started Marilyn Monroe's portrait.

Looks great so far

I have not forgotten your suggestion of sending Mariah a copy of the portrait to sign but it appears that Mariah is, yet again, very very busy. Next time my mother talks to her agent, I promise I'll let you know, but I don't know how soon that will be.

it's ok.. she must be really busy - her forthcoming album is ready to be launched
thanks for not having forgotten about it!

Rushlord [2008-03-17 01:22:28 +0000 UTC]

Did you draw the lines on the paper?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LucaTedde In reply to Rushlord [2008-03-17 07:15:15 +0000 UTC]

Yes I always use a grid over the reference picture and on the paper. It helps me to keep proportions so I can focus my skills on the rendering without being too much distracted by measuring distances etc. I prefer to spend some time on a preliminary grid instead of being continuously checking if I'm doing this or that feature the right size.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rushlord In reply to LucaTedde [2008-03-17 09:16:54 +0000 UTC]

Do you have a special ruler to make a grid?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LucaTedde In reply to Rushlord [2008-03-17 09:24:05 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely not it's a normal ruler. The particularity of the grid I use is that I don't use just squares but diagonals too.
It looks complicated but it's not!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rushlord In reply to LucaTedde [2008-03-17 11:53:52 +0000 UTC]

I tried it once but the squares didn't have the same size in the end .

Luca........I just love that softness, it really works as a piece on its own.......I am always amazed at how you pencil artists can work and complete a small area at a time and the whole just comes together at the end................I always need to work overall.....balancing, adjusting, reworking........rebalancing etc, etc........

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LucaTedde In reply to RobM48 [2008-03-17 07:12:01 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, there are pencil artists who work just like you.. creating a sketch, adding contrasts and details as they go on with the whole composition. And that is what they teach you in an art academy eh eh eh.. but I haven't got an art training so
I work like I feel comfortable with

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RobM48 In reply to LucaTedde [2008-03-17 18:53:59 +0000 UTC]

I never had any training either......sometimes I think it is so much better than having influences forced upon you.........keep working in your comfort zone....look forward to the finished piece............

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LucaTedde In reply to RobM48 [2008-03-18 10:39:04 +0000 UTC]

yeah sometimes I think it's better this way so that we can express ourselves and use the technique we want without having been too much influenced by a style we doesn't recognize as our "own".
