Description Here are some pages I did for the 1st issue of the comic Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising from Radical Publishing. In fact these are the very first test pages I did the colors for, the previous pages are done by

The talented Bagus Hutomo AKA did the base while I did the colours over them. It had been a blast working with a talent like him. He shall be putting up the base for show (or even do some colours on them too ) so watch out for them too.

And special thanks to for teaching me all the really nice fanciful effects that appeared in the book

Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising is a property of Zombie Studios and Radical Publishing

ahhh thank you for the support.

but unfortunately I have to complain that the people in charge of the printing doesn't bother to match the printed colors and the colors on screen, so things actually might end up looking different -_-.....

Plus back of the book is very weak and easily breaks of, the previous owner had to tape it back together... and most of the pages are up-side down now

Oh that is AWESOME! I'll be harrassing my local comic store owners for a copy!

IFX featured Shrapnel in the news section of their January 2009 issue. As soon as I saw it, I vowed to track it down and read it to death. That there is some of the finest comic book art I have ever seen.

Ooh, dicey.

I have a copy of said issue. The article takes up about three quarters of a page. You can't see any of the art in great detail, but the article alone makes it sound absolutely fantastic.

hde2009 In reply to Luches [2009-09-14 16:22:11 +0000 UTC]

Well, in that case (even though I've already said my piece on this):

I really think this shows a bold and progressive step forward for comics as a medium. I've seen plenty of books that looked amazing, but lacked the story and solid writing to back up the amazing artwork. Shrapnel looks to be a product that scores bang on the money.

When I first saw the artwork, I remember thinking 'Wow - this book looks amazing!' There's bucket-loads of atmosphere in the art, and it's very pretty to look at while remainng dynamic and clear.

It really put me in mind of a few books I read recently, like The Red Star, Slaine: Books Of Invasions and ABC Warriors: the Volgan War. All of them are fantastic books to look at, with satisfying stories.

Shrapnel has gone straight to the top of my 'must have' list!

I'm sure you get a shit load of comments asking this...

But can you link me a place to learn how to make effects and styles like that? It is Incredibly important that i know how, I'm needing to learn this for graphic novel making. I honestly cannot make it more urgent in say so, I may be a bit rude, and i apologise for that. It's just that making comics seems to be in my future just as well as any other artistic expression seems to be. music ect.
I need to know how on earth you can create explosions with those beautiful colors like splashing lava, ect. or the glow of a light on a persons face, and how to color in this same kind of style. which seems to be used in concept art usually.

Please if you could, thank you. please respond.

Luches In reply to ageshero [2009-07-31 01:09:50 +0000 UTC]

I can't really pinpoint a definate web source for you to learn, most of the techiques I acquired were through varios means, from books, webpages, videos, friends or just by lucky accidents while working.

You can try [link] for a start. Other then that you can read up on basic drawing theories, you will be surprise how the proper application of basic theories can make a huge differance

Actualy i got here the 5 issues i'm still reading and inch by inch analysing it it ...

As a whole is reaaly a great and grand achievement , in all 5 issues the concept artwork applied is perfect ...

The writers were magnificent ...
Especially The integration between talks and images , and the history by those talks is magnificent ... movie quality .

The concept art is also perfect and the overall feelings extreme cinematic, and magnificent dinamic ...

The overall scene concepts development are also extraordinary ...

We get a felling of seeying a movie after ending it ...

Its amazing.

Now as producer , there are just one thing i think it lacks - and maybe not your ( the artists ) fault - but of the production in the whole .

--

As producer i can notice that - beside the conceptual art being perfect in all ways - its just a concept - a base start .
Most of the times ... And most of the times way too much rough .

But again the five issues would not be able to be done "on that among of time" that your team did ...

And for the time that you had you did just a marvellous job.

..

But on the production fact - for something such as epic as this amazing work you the artists - should had at least 4 times more time to do the whole 5 issues ...

In order to especially apply some matte painting techniques [link] [link] ...

( i think your studio in a overall of all artworkers lacks alot - time mainly - for that kind of more realistic smooth matte paint detailed - not so painterly final result - after you do what you do techniques ) Beside of on composition and on the overall of studio style are from there the finest in the world sure ... but ..

On this production especially ...

With 4 times or 5 more on time and payment to apply that degree of production . That the producers should had given - This work would be like one of the best things around is ...

::::::::::

ANYWAY ...

Imaginary Friends ...

You guys on comics - Sory Graphic Noveling are like - WHOW !... The world bests ...

Is there anyway any how to output a list of All comics you guys have done and participated till now .

You people should have that .

:::

OK ...

Keep kicking that professional very world best sequential stuffs !!

have fun.
