Description
Re-learning vectors and first-time-learning patience.Spent about 3 days solid then shelved it for nearly a month, then spent another 3 days giving it the final touch-ups.
Drawn in CS2 with my mouse and the pencil tool. Who wants to donate a tablet?

5th attempt at a vector, EVER.
Please leave constructive feedback. I want to improve my work. Also, any hints for Adobe Illustrator are welcome.

I just looked at the original pic...
I realized why the teeth seem so small. In the original pic, you can't really see her top teeth, so you compensated and added them in. But, the top teeth should be much bigger than the bottom ones.
Great job getting rid of the piercings. It totally changes the feeling of the image.
Anyway, just wanted to clarify my earlier comment about the teeth.

The only tips I can give are to keep practicing... The pencil tool is a great tool for irregular lines. Now I understand why the contours around the face feel a little rough. You can achieve much smoother lines with the pen tool. Take some time and get to know the pen tool... It's really the foundation of Illustrator, and will help immensely with Photoshop tasks like masking and making detailed selections.
Also, as someone who knows, I really recommend becoming very familiar with the gradient mesh tool. You can get some awesome shading effects with it, and it will really open up your art to new possibilities.
Just stick with it... use the help menu, follow any tutorials you can find that might seem applicable.
Don't get discouraged! You're already very talented... Becoming familiar with the tools takes patience, practice, and more practice.

Hi there...
This is a great pic... very well done. I love the fine lines in the hair and the transluscent look to the eyes and lips.
My only real criticisms are:
A) the outer contours of the face seem a little rough. Not sure if that's intentional, or possibly a limitation of working with the mouse, but, the contours could use some smoothing. Just spend more time tweaking the handlebars on your points... it's the fine tuning that will make your work better.
B) The teeth seem too small. That's just my opinion, though. I wouldn't call myself an expert... but, these teeth seem disproportionate to the mouth.
It's always scary giving a critique!
Keep in mind that I think this is an awesome vector... especially since it's your 5th attempt!
I do all of my vectors using just my mouse in CS2... you get better over time. I have a Wacom tablet, but, I'm just not as familiar with it. No matter what tool you use, practice makes perfect, and you're well on your way.

I still can't get used to the pen tool so I used the pencil tool for absolutely every shape (except for the circles in the eye). I had a load of trouble with the teeth (since the original didn't have any teeth). Thank you for the critique! It's very helpful to know what I'm doing right and what should be worked on.

My friend does a lot of vectoring but he's not as good as you. The colour of the eye and lips really stand out in this picture.
