I like Hollywood Undead, Gorillaz, etc. (American, so Gorillaz isn't mainstream at all)
What do I get for it?
Little friends and many enemies.
Worth it, I'm not going to these stupid ass fads like 'The Fox' for friends.

I hate when people say I have no taste in music because I don't like most mainstream music.

But if we're all not mainstream, then doesn't that make it mainstream?

What's really ironic is the changing of the definition of mainstream. If mainstream means what is popular and what is the same, and if everyone is being different, wouldn't that make being different mainstream?
I am all for being unique, but I just wanted to point out the irony.

This is not very... Intelligent. Being uh, "mainstream" is the anthem that an artist, or whomever, is successful, that they did their business correctly and they get what they worked for which is their fans who they give thanks to. This is also pretty hypocritical, being that you're posting this on DeviantArt-- A very popular website for dozens of artists to showcase their work in hopes to be noticed and get a ton of attention. Do you see where I'm getting at? Mainstream doesn't suck, you just have to get over yourself.

Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Hannah Montana.
All mainstream, all putting in as little effort to please their drones fans as possible.
I fucking hate all 3 of them, but particularly HM and NM. They're pushing the Female gender backwards 3-5 steps.

Hannah Montana doesn't even exist anymore.
And as much as I don't like Nicki Minaj, she's an idiot really, but she knows what she wants to do, and she's pushing her "fem-power" forward as in she doesn't let a man tell her what to do. In fact, no female artist in the industry is pushing and gender backwards they are all evening it out. So for you to say that is incredibly stupid.
Just Bieber's a twink.

Truth is, Nicki Minaj is getting teen/preteen fanbrats to act like strippers. It's not fem-power, it's slut-power.
Adele is a decent artist at least, by modern standards.

You know, I was being sarcastic. That was me mocking all the "mainstrem suks!!11!!!!1" people, via the use of atrocious grammar and spelling (which is often present in such arguments, especially on youtube). I guess I've gotten too good at the "atrocious grammar and spelling" part.

I know you where being sarcastic. I was as well, though you know that. It was a joke, if you will. My apologies if it seemed sharp, I have a odd sense of humor.

If by "mainstream" we define most songs you hear on the radio and on music channels these days, then down with mainstream, BUT sometimes, some (very few) mainstream songs are actually good and I don't really see what's so bad about an artist making money from his work as long as he is not creating tunes just for the sake of gaining riches. So what must we do us responsible listeners is separate the trash from the worthy things.
Then again, all I see these days is people going against mainstream, most people I know are against it, so are we a majority cruely beating on a few people who we label stupid just because of their taste in music (like we claim they do to us)?
So the point is, let everyone listen to whatever music they like, as long as they enjoy themselves, as long as we're all happy, it's fine.

I agree with the point that we should like whatever we like but im starting to think that artists are just making songs JUST for the money because most of the stuff on the radio is pretty much all auto tuned and if you compare 2004's mainstream compared to today's mainstream, it has gone down hill by a lot.

Well, if you're being yourself and not caring about the rest then wouldn't it still be okay to like what's mainstream? I mean ignoring mainstram just cause others besides you like it is kind of defying the point of beign yourself. If you like it, look and listen, if you dont like it, dont do it, not letting whether someone else supports what you do or not encourage or stop you from doing it is truly being yourself. thus the saying "I liked it before it was popular"(and no i dont say that, just an example)
But yeah, if you liek mainstream, go for it, thats being yourself
