Wonderful light and color, and awesome control of texture and movement. The light behind the right eye showing the brown color is perfect, and coming through gold in the mane. And the texture of the muzzle! Lovely! And the horse's face is so sound and faithfully reproduced, all the wrinkles and bone and strange bits that horse faces have. I think you achieved your goal here with light and shadow and atmosphere. It's powerful and graceful!
I'm visually confused a little by the hard edged shadow on the right side of the painting (left side of the horse) under the mane. It kind of moves toward abstract in that region, like a chunk of the horse is missing, rather than a fall of shadow, especially the "corner" on the neck. Maybe because the face and mane are so masterfully rendered, that shift has me a bit distracted. Or maybe I am looking at it wrong!
In any case, beautiful work!!
