I think Darkman is one of Sam Raimi's best films. It follows the story of a doctor played by Liam Neeson who is severely injured when some goons blow up his lab. After going through a extreme surgery where his nerve endings are shut off to stop his constant pain (and basically making him immune to pain in the process) he further develops his process of making replacement skin to disguise himself and get revenge.This was done for and went through a couple revisions. I had my line work almost complete but then some of the other entries started rolling in and I decided to make some changes. I dropped some of the auxiliary figures and flames I had going and instead decided to focus on how I was going to portray Darkman. I decided to depict him looking through a shattered mirror and am fairly happy with how it turned out.

Holy shit this is probably my favorite thing I've seen in ever so long. Darkman IS one of Raimi's best. He wanted to do a Shadow film but couldn't get the rights - it's amazing how he took that basic idea and made it entirely his own.
I love how visceral his mouth looks. And the subtle text in the cracks. Mm.

Eyes are always important, if possible you don't want to mess up eyes or hands. Those can either make or break a piece.

Great minds think alike. However, our pieces look nothing alike. (I'll post mine within the hour.) Centering the break around the eye gives you the sense that he is staring directly at you.

I'm really glad you not only took teh time to tell us a bit about why you went with this, but that yous tuck with this plan....I think it really represents the rage in the character perfectly, the details in the burned out lipless face are great.
Has been a lot of great entries on this so far, but I think you really brought something fresh (and charred!) to this battle. Was a great concept using the shattered mirror, and it turned out great. Sounds like you had a lot of other ideas planned, but this is sharp and streamlined and works all around.

It originally would have had a lot of similarities to and some of the other pieces. But once I thought of the broken mirror idea I had to go for it. I tried to fit in the other elements I had started but it just got way too busy.
Looking forward to the rest of the pieces, seems like a fairly small amount have submitted for how close the deadline is.

its great hearing the 'what could have beens' at theeh drawing board but I think what you settled on succeeds in setting your piece apart, and keeps the focus where its more powerful.
Interesting to see everyone's ideas on darkman, I guess it left a fairly similar mental picture on a lot of people. Nostalgia is cool like that.
Its always interesting to me how the submissions trickle in each week.....about this time I get real worried we're looking at a bunch of NC's, but I think a lot of people are busy until the weekend, or enjoy the tactical advantage of submitting close to the buzzer....we always see a lot more close to the finish. Happened that way with Claymore too, and Scarab.
The response to Darkman was pretty positive, so as long as people have the time I'm sure we'll get to see everyone's work on time.

I think my top are the Evil Dead movies, Spiderman 2, and Darkman. I wanted to rewatch it before finishing this off but my Netflix is dragging it's heels.
