365 days of CyborgsAkira is one of my favorite manga/anime around. The movie was one of the big things that got me into anime as a kid and it was awesome tracking down old versions of the manga and seeing how much bigger the world was. Now I'll have to excuse myself before I get it an old man rant about how easy kids have it these days...

saddly no Kaneda yet, I've been pretty busy with my daily cyborg drawings this past year. I hope to do one of him at some point, and if I don't chicken out I want to include his bike.

Akira had the same effect on me. After tracking down the manga myself, I pretty much went into shock at the depth of the story. And the art also. I remember carrying it around the first volume with me as if it was a comic bible.
Btw, really like the pic. Especially the textures on the right arm and clothing.

I too was highly inspired by Akira in my formative days. When I got older and was finally was making some real cash, I ponied up for that huge paperback series of the Manga. Worth every dime. I still loan it out from time to time to those I find that have not read them.

Oh, wow, we could only hope for something like that, eh. You never know though... I thought that they would never make an OVA, let alone a mini series, of the manga "Blade of the Immortal", but they did.

And Akira was the movie that did it for me also. My sister had moved to japan, and when she visited she told me about anime.
and akira. this was early 90's
and from then on, i hunted movie store to movie store to try and find the 2 or 3 movies they had.

I remember having seen Blockbusters entire anime collection at one point. It was only about 10 movies? It's weird though how much I've drifted out of that world though. I used to know everything about anime and manga but it seems like american comics and videogames have taken over that spot in my geek heart.
