Description
submission for Cessa Graphical Symphony Contest..the contest is about
drawing a picture based on a music or a song,
try to draw the atmosphere of your choice of music on an artwork
Its pretty hard to do, but I feel the contest is quite interesting and challenging.
So at that moment i've got a good Idea, so here it is, the Caged Bird.(ost DN angel)
argh~! *stressed out*
I didnt realize there are so many things I realized when I did this piece.
1.I've never shade a building before (I did, the 1st time I learn shading 2 years ago, but never done anything like that until now)
2. I cant shade a cloth material properly =_=;
3.I dont know how to shade sky/snow/weather related
4. I dont know anything about water shading
5. I have bad sense of building structure
conclusion-> This drawing looks horrible , I should tear the hard copy by tonight!
maybe I should have just redrawn from the contest.

This is another beautiful piece of yours! The dress can be improved on, even if it is already quite good.
But I swear, you're better than me in drawing and shading buildings. I couldn't even draw a decent facade of a house!

Nah, I'm not that good yet... there's so many mistakes that I did on this piece, like the cloth..and yep, the other one is the dress..
They are simply too simple *sigh* I be that because I dont have sense of fashion

I probably have a sense of fashion, but I dress up weirdly.
Like I wear a sleeveless top on top of a short sleeved shirt which is on top of a 3/4 sleeved shirt.

Not really, in fact it is somekind of fashion too right?? I saw some of my friend dressed like that.
My mum used to tell me anything will match if you have similar colours( like blue and blue, white and white). If you want to play safe, just wear anything with either white or black. She didnt give me anymore advice other than that, and I followed that till now.
But my friends always dress up in contrast colour >_<

I love white/black combinations! Oh, and by the way, what your mom said is sort of right, but of course, you normally use different shades of the same color.
Contrast colors help balance out the temperature of the color by using red with violet, both extremes at color temperature scale.
I guess some of our art lessons on color apply to clothing as well. =>

I like the sense of scale you've used - the girl seems so small in that big, empty space, which really emphasizes the melancholy inspiration of the work. There's nice contrast between lights and darks. The fabric drapes are drawn quite realistically. Your lines flow well and the perspective is solidly done.
I think something that could be improved is softening the outlines, showing the shape of objects through shading more than linework.

I'm glad to see that the drapery makes physical sense (which is more than I can say for the majority of the drawings I've seen), but it's worthy to point out that the folds are rarely triangular in shape. The edges tend to be more rounded like a big squiggle. xD
I'd recommend doing a cloth study for the dress too. The way it gathers together and then fans out looks unnatural.
Although the girl is really small, you still need to pay attention to anatomy. Right now she looks awkward and her arms are different lengths.
What are the pointy round things?! o-o?
I really don't like how there is so much boring, open space. It takes the focus away from the girl. In that case, shade a way that directs the viewer's attention back at her, like with a glow.
The biggest piece of advice I can give is to keep drawing and keep observing. Look for and memorize details in the real world that you could use in your drawings, and keep practicing them. Between observations and studies, you'll get to learn the form and function of just about every object in the universe. Practice makes perfect, right? ;D

I'm so envious! I wish I could draw like you, your cloth shading is incredible, why did you think you couldn't do it? And just to let you know, the room looks like it's made of marble, so don't fret!
