blood
thick and sticky
covers my hands
and keeps them warm
as it drips in
large
grotesque
globs
It defines the many
contours of my little hands
The light seems
to be enraptured by it
and finds ways to be
reflected in it
as much as it possibly can

I've torn up my flesh
in a desperate search
for  my heart
The pressure
was hitting a climax
and i could no longer stand
the pain
and sorrow
and regret
and depreciation
that it pumped
through these emaciated veins
choking them with
an overwhelming despair

The tear in my soul
was much larger
than the one oozing
and festering
in my chest
when I found,
naught but the absence,
of that vital organ

Here I remain
staring uselessly
at the crimson palms
of my trembling hands
wondering desperately,
yearning helplessly,
to know how their
words
actions
thoughts
silence
could do such
a complete and thorough job
of wounding me
if i did not even have a heart
for them to shatter

In my estranged state
You approached me
and pointed out the shards
that used to collaborate
and beat
and pump
and sing
and scream
that were strewn about
inside of  me
Delicately
You removed them
and reassembled
the crumpled mass
of my heart
You clenched it in your fists
to protect it from the world
And though the shards
jagged
and sharp
and piercing
and bitterly drenched in anger
lodged themselves
so firmly in your palms
You held on tight
as the blood dripped
slowly
arduously
triumphantly
from your hands

Before time
has slipped entirely passed us
you return my heart
to it's rightful place
and watch
as the gears turn
and mechanisms churn
to revive me

Slowly at first
Quiet
solemn
tears
roll from my cheeks
for the first time
in a  very
long
time

But you gently
brush them away
and wrap your arms about me
to clench me in an embrace
that will protect me from the world
