Yeah. It's that conflict. ^^ I'm a stickler for all of the eyes/designs with lots of eyes and the colors are out of my comfort zone in a good way (not usually ones I find myself using together) but I really like how well they fit together. It almost makes me curious what this Ruba'h looked like as a dragon before the orbs/soul vessels were sealed. c:
Then I'm always conflicted because I don't have time to draw much and I love characters a lot but I feel like I neglect them so much artistically.

I guess that is true it's difficult to come up with things that don't seem cliché, however these days I don't think there are many if any traits that have gone unused. I think it's important to love the features you do and the story behind it will keep the uniqueness. Like if I were drawing a dog I sure wouldn't add a ton of eyes on it or it wouldn't be a dog anymore, however if a feature makes sense for what you're drawing (even if it's just a feature meant to show off like peacocks have their ridiculous tails) then I think it's alright.
I do think that the colors go well on this one. c: I imagine that's the struggle of digital painting where you blend a lot and you sometimes get stuck with a set of colors that you can't hardly fix no matter how hard you try. I've had a few of those incidences which is probably why I abuse the number of layers I use, but at the same time it means blending between colors on two separate layers just doesn't happen.
That said if you're ever concerned things don't seem to fit right color wise maybe test things out on a separate layer first because you have that luxury when painting digitally. Or maybe do base colors on separate layers and tweak them before combining the layers and adding in all of the blending and depth? Just ideas. You might do all of this already. c: It might save you time though if you don't do it?
Ohhh and I see. I never thought about it that way before but that makes a lot of sense for the adopter to think it up. Maybe I just love seeing your ideas too much! Haha. Then again I like visualizing things. I'm sure this one was a lovely dragon back before hand. I can't wait to see what Ruba'h turn up next. ^^
Thanks for the support! I do think about my OCs a lot in my free time. When I'm on campus and walking sometimes it's the best thing to think about. I usually think about their appearances too but I need to push myself to write down the details/story I think up because I either can't draw it (lack of skill) or don't have the time. They are all very precious to me though. c:

Mhm. That sounds about right. c: And stories are really good. I love the ones people build around their characters. c: Designs are neat and inspirational that's for sure. ^^
And I see about the painting. Well you seem to have at least the layer duplication that's working well for you! I keep forgetting since you work all on one layer that you can end up just duplicating an entire piece by copying that layer. Digital painting is truly an amazing thing. You do it really well too. ^^
It's alright if it takes time. Life is kinda like that. Just gotta take things as they come. And even if the original story is almost non-existent anymore it doesn't mean you can't think about Ruba'h in other ways too. Sometimes I ask myself about what certain species/characters do. General quirks minus the specifics that are built when they are adopted. Sometimes it's just fun to imagine what they look like in all their varieties. I don't think stopping would look that silly but it might not be very good if you've gotta be some place. I know those feelings though. It's like when I'm dozing off and I forget to keep a notebook handy and by the time I get up to go get one or if I'm too tired and don't the ideas just disappear.
I'll keep trying to draw them. Eventually I'll get there/find something that works for me. I love all of my OCs a lot. c: Lately I've been thinking up more specifics on general side characters I've had in stories but really love/appreciate. They have pretty great personalities and it's fun to imagine what they were like as kids compared to the adults some of them are now.
