Description Hal'aste, field commander of the Drow House Vrinn, and Dulevrie, soldier of the Hake King Uvilia share a moment of dark amusement at someone's misfortune...

---

The other Drow grinned, the glowing light of the cave giving a gleam to teeth bared in a hunter's sneer; and Dulevrie knew he was grinning right along with them. For him this mission was more than just profit, more than Phaere's status, and far more than just the vast number of slaves they stood to gain. He'd come across the ocean because of King Uvilia's dream; that thousands of years of dark elven losses and continual decline were a trap that could be escaped, if they looked beyond the traditions that bound them. Here was King Uvilia's dream given form, a diverse group of dark elves woven together into one force, however tenuously. Something with potential far greater than the sum of its parts.

Above them, the humans went about their lives, as yet unaware of the danger beneath. As yet unaware of the dark dream waiting to devour them all...

(Update 1/3/2020: Fixed Dulevrie's eye color)

Good ol' Dulevrie!

He's pretty awful, but in that shadowy world, he's the only hero in sight for Hal'aste.

Even villains have people they care about... sometimes they even admit it!

Heh. Humans, whether they know it or not, have the terraformers, you slate faced point ears, what I call the mantle swimming Titan Droids are loyal ONLY to the Sons of Adam.
Drow in their caverns stood the least chance of all against them. The slightest burp from a titan droid underneath can bury them all alive.
The clerics who know how to summon them are the most powerful men in the world.

The reactivation of the terraforming system is not really an enjoyable experience for the dark elves.

Though, really, it's not much of an enjoyable experience for anyone.

True, but desperate times demand desperate acts. I do wish the humans figured out how to merely threaten with the system with the equivalent of a “shot across the bow” instead of fully activate it, however. Damn things, whatever they specifically are (I think “Titan Droid” is a cool name, but really no one knows; they may have figured out how to control thousands of mini black holes that travel through the crust for all we know), never do anything by halves.

When you're dealing with technology that old, sometimes all you can do is "press the button" and hope you read the manual correctly. I have my own theories about why it all went down like it did, but that'll have to wait until I actually write it, assuming someone else doesn't get there first. XD

Considering the actual reactivation may well have been transmitting "disengage all safety lockouts and restart the process", no, nothing gets done by half measures...

Hard to read a manual when the minimum physics needed for comprehension are totally alien to one’s philosophy.
