Hmmm here's a personal advice~ o:
When it comes to scales, researching on all sorts of reptile's scales can be very helpful, since you can familiarize it yourself on how they looked like, how is it neatly placed with each other etc etc
Oh & another tip, besides doing research, practicing your drawing tool's pressure strokes are important as well, so you can control the pressure/thickness of the lines to make the scales more real (ofc shading plays an important part as well)
