Description Now then, this isnt from a book but from a folk song, where a farmer makes his cabin with trees that are guarded by elves. I wont type it out here, its a bit long. Funny thing though it seems that germanic/nordic elves are tall and graceful, while english elves are small and goblinish.

A traditional song but made famous by steeleye span, a folk band I've been force fed since birth. All the songs are a little bit twisted and dark. Hooray for folk music, where it all began

Havent got much else to do but keep plopping out paintings and putting them up here, not entirely pleased with this one, did it a bit quickly and I think it shows. Also, a bit of dabbling in photoshop with some of the elves cos I did them after scanning.

Wahey! I searched "steeleye span" but didn't expect it to turn up anything by someone I know (on deviantART, at least)! They're a great band, that I too, have been force-fed. Though I've never heard that one.

I really like the way your elves stand out so well- Photoshop certainly did the trick!

A whole load of mythical creatures have different appearences in different cultures, though elves seem to be one of the strangest. I think that somewhere Trolls are quite small "anklebiter" type monsters, though I'm not sure. Lots are also medical conditions for some reason.

Absolutly wonderful!! I really like your elves: they look like living, cunning shadows... and I like how drive you he observer attention to the little house that looks so isolated... Very vocative painting!

Wooh thanks. Yeah, I had things about that house, it sorta looks like it does but didnt know what to put in there that would not make it do that, but also not complicate things.

The original use of the word that became "elf" was in a phrase that said "the white nightmares from the mountains/that are as tall as mountains". There development as characters in myths and legends is quite fascinating.

This [link] is the first draft of a fantasy graphic novel that I'm writing. If you like elves, and don't mind reading quite a long bit of a story that doesn't end yet... it might interest you.

Your picture is VERY good. Especially for being something you did quickly. You pulled off a very interesting idea effectively. The composition is really the best part. I like the goblinoid design of the elves too. And the fact that you contrasted the ones that are further into the scene by using white.
