Description
This was the culmination of hours of driving around with Marc Adamus.
We set off from St Mary and scouted a bunch of spots around Glacier Park but Marc just wasn't satisfied with any of them.
The light and clouds were changing fast.
Finally we set off north, almost to the Canadian border. Barreling down winding roads with our caravan of five SUVs at 80mph, Marc in the lead of course and everyone else just trying to keep up.
We stopped here on the side of the road because Marc predicted the sun should pass in front of Chief Mountain.
Sure enough, not long after we arrived sun beams broke through the clouds and passed right in front of the mountain.
It lasted just 30 seconds perhaps but it was the scene that Marc wanted and he was satisfied.
By now, a group of cows had us nearly surrounded...there are a lot of free ranging cows in this area.
Some lenticular clouds were appearing near the horizon facing north but there was nothing worth shooting in that direction, just more cows...
There would be no sunset that day, this was the last of the sun. Autumn rain obscured everything shortly after.
We made our way south again to dine at the Cattle Baron Supper Club in Babb, a very Montana place to eat.
I don't eat steak but Marc said it has some of the best steak he's ever had (he used to be a professional chef!). The food was great (the bread soooo tasty!) and a wholesome end to a day full of hikes and adventures.
I think everyone slept really well, only to get up at 4:30am the next day and begin a new set of adventures...
