Next time I would lose the drop shadow, it's an awesome tutorial, but you sure do know how to make us all feel like Dsyslexics... I thought I might need glasses...

great little tutorial... Ive done something similar to this myself, with excellent results. to further avoid "burning" the background, you can move the posterboard further away (I used bed sheets that I picked up from walmart for $2.) You can also illuminate the smoke from different angles to achieve a different perspective on depth.

I'm also goig to play with this. I used the flash on my camera and steam coming off dinner I was cooking one night for some nice effect, but... eh. This is cooler. Perhaps make it easier to read by removing the shadowing on the text? It makes my eyes hurt.
