Description Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock. An acrylic painting using various images as source, one for pose. The original is much more subtle and is in the style of an old master oil painting, but I photograph it very well which was annoying. In the end I scanned it in and started trying to edit out all the bits of white in the background where the light had caught the paint texture, but that looked rubbish and blurry, so I've left most of it as it is. It gives you an idea anyway.

Beautiful work! His skin tone looks fantastic.
I understand what you mean about the frustrations of trying to photograph paintings. I am rarely happy with the results when I photograph a canvas. I made small white reflector panels to bounce the light. I'm hoping that will help.

I hope it works for you.
This is the tutorial where I got the idea fav.me/d6klbb8 . It is more for crafts, but I think the same idea would work for highly textured paintings.

The effect of the painting process is gorgeous! It's interesting to look back over your works in progress to see how the end result came about. Lovely work!

Thank you.  I was trying to give it a Victorian style look, more in keeping with the original Sherlock Holmes, to add a bit of a twist.
