What movie? What movie are you talking about? There is no such thing as an Avatar: the last airbender movie. It doesn't exist. But why have they not made a movie yet?Β Β

I watched this movie recently, and I was struck by the very last shot of the film, in which all the water folks(and fire guys for some reason) all started bowing to Ong(misspelling deliberate). This is supposed to be his crowning moment the whole movie is leading up to, where he accepts the role of the Avatar and becomes the savior the world needs. But look at his face! He doesn't look like a hero, he looks like a scared kid who got shoved in front of a big crowd and just wishes they'd go away! Just summarizes everything wrong with this version of the character with that one image. Shameful.

I'm just bothered by the very idea that the stupid bow was supposed to be a defining moment at all. Β The worldbuilding in ATLA is so much broader than the movie would have you believe. :/

How about Teoh? If he were in the move, he'd probably be inspirationally disadvantaged or something.

Closest thing I ever watched was the Nostalgia Critic's review of the movie. It was about as funny as Sokka (from the cartoons) and I enjoyed how it poked fun at Shyamalan. His mockery of that stupid "earthbending" scene was frickin' hilarious! The only possible thing about it that might have had merit is that the kid they got to play Aang does, admittedly, look like him, but this is destroyed by his shitting acting.

Really, a lot of characters probably feel the same as Toph for being spared of the film's treatment: Suki (When people draw Team Avatar, she's always forgotten), Jeong Jeong, Jet, King Bumi, June, Avatars Roku and Kyoshi, Koh, Teo and his dad... and the people from Books 2 and 3 are also lucky by default.

DanosaurusWrecks [2013-09-14 00:18:40 +0000 UTC]
How could Toph even tell? Maybe she just wasn't talking throughout the film. Either way, it's better treatment than the other characters.

Oh no, they weren't actually talking about you being in it. Β They were talking about people refusing watch the movie because she wasn't in it, and mentioned below that now people are celebrating the fact she wasn't in it, linking to this picture. Β But they were calling the people refusing to watch the movie because of that the fan dumb, not you.

Other characters fortunate enough to not be in the movie: Jet, Suki, Avatar Roku, the Ocean Spirit, Koh... well, all of the characters really, cuz, I don't know who those people were in the movie, but it wasn't them...
The cabbage guy, King Bumi, the rest of the Kyoshi warriors, Foamy, master Pakku, Avatar Kyoshi, Jeong Jeong, The mechanist, Teo, all the other avatars, um...
π: 0 β©: 3
AnEnemySpy In reply to erikatheraindeer [2014-07-01 05:03:45 +0000 UTC]
The ocean spirit was there, it just served no purpose because Shamylan decided the story would be better if Aang mastered the Avatar State two movies early, thereby gaining his most powerful ability and making any danger the Fire Lord poses entirely trivial.

I recently got Netflix and a friend of mine an I are planning on watching it thataway so we can catalog everything that's wrong with it.
After that I'll be writing a fic in which the main characters watch it. Sokka's reaction proves to be amusing, as always.

Avatar has joined Eragon in the realm of things that could have made amazing movie trilogies (at least) and were ruined with the first film because the studios gave the projects to inept morons to produce and direct.

Yes, so all non-white people are the same now?
The Fire Nation is based off of China with hints of Thailand. Air Nomads are based off of Tibet.
Therefore, Chinese or Thai actors for Fire Nation people, Tibetan actors for Air Nomads, non?

I agree, that movie was a travesty. The DVD I watched it on was scratched though, so I missed some of it, but it wasn't really that much of a loss apparently.
The characters just weren't themselves at all from what I could tell.
I also didn't get why Katara kept saying 'ong' when the animated series clearly pronounced it 'ang'.
As for the colorblind part, I'm afraid I don't get it.
I was also looking forward to at least the really cool part with the water spirit, but instead they chose giant tidal wave. Which I don't really get. Not to mention they went and killed off the admiral.
Either way I agree with you on many of these same points.

Yes! The Koi-zilla! That was such a bad move. I was really looking forward to seeing it in glorious CG! For the names, I guess Shymalan said that he changed the pronunciations so that they sounded "more asian" which is ridiculous, since he didn't get asian actors. That's what the colorblind comment is about, Katara and Sokka should be inuit, like the rest of the tribe. Also, I'm really mad about Zuko's scar. I wanted it to look WORSE, not be barely visible. I don't mind that Zhao died, but I did mind how it happened. No cool fight between him and Zuko at all? And he's killed by random waterbenders?? NO.
π: 0 β©: 1
CitrineG In reply to Mad-Sniper [2013-06-10 22:34:50 +0000 UTC]
If I remember correctly, Zhao died in the series, they just couldn't show it because the network didn't want them to show the death of a character on-screen (which may have contributed to the WTFery of energybending in S3), so they just implied it.
As for the 'more asian' names....Um....how about a no? Like, if you're going to do that....do it RIGHT. The Asian pronounciation of the Avatar's name is actually closer to 'ong', as in, 'rhymes with song', than to 'ang'(as seen in cartoon) and 'ahng'(as seen in movie). Like, his name is song but without the s. No sounding like the Egyptian ankh.
