Description Ok, yes, I know ... this a rather blatant violation of my current non-fanart policy...

But, if you've read Deathly Hallows ... or at least know what happens to Professor Severus Snape (my favorite character in all of Harry Potter) then you'll understand why I felt compelled to finally create a rendition of him.

Just a simple, unreferenced portrait of 'the bravest man' in a slightly looser style than I normally paint.

Snape is the intellectual property of JK Rowling, but the painting belongs to me.

EDIT: Re-upload after digitally resizing his big hand...

Size: 8 x 10 inches
Medium: Acrylics on canvas

*Grins* Thanks! I will probably eventually give him 'the works' treatment in the future (see exhibits like 'Erik Scissorhands' and 'Sasha's Requiem for 'the works' treatment)

I like it! It almost has a Russian Icon feel to it.

I still haven't gotten the chance to read book 7 (and as such, I skipped reading all comments, just to be on the safe side...). This truly is a cool piece, and the non-fanart policy is dumb. You're too good at recreating these characters to not make 'em

Haha, my commentary isn't all that revealing, but you may be perceptive enough to pick up the general idea of what happens. I'm glad to you like the painting! Ehhh.... I do like doing fanart, but as I said before, as an artist I really do need to work on my own ideas for a little while. But that doesn't mean I'll abandon fanart forever! Lord knows I have a load of ideas stowed away for when the fanart fever seizes me.

Snape is one of my favourite characters of the series, too. This is a very lovely rendition of him. Must fav.

Yay! Snape!

Lovely face, my dear. The black eyes look like they've sucked all of the light from the room.

However, the finger on his wand looks a tad wide to me....a minor observation::grins::

Ah, I'll have to comment on this!

Oh, I love that shade of green (Slytherin green) in the background. Nicely done!

*Reads your description* Well, I guess that answered my question.

*scratches head* .... Is that really Slytherin Green? I figured Slytherin Green was more ... green. (LOL)

But thanks for commenting!

RosesAndThorns In reply to MadameGiry [2007-08-09 22:51:19 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I don't know if it is Slytherin green ... I was just commenting on your use of a greenish color for Slytherin ...

Ahh, well thankee! Even though I sort of arbitrarily picked that teal tone to offset the purple of Snape.
