Ooh, that must have been interesting. I love to travel. I have the spirit of a migratory bird and get antsy if I don't travel far at least once a year. I went to the Bahamas last year in Feb so I'm very jumpy now to go somewhere else. I'm from Florida. It's warm 10 months out of the year. We're in winter right now until mid Feb. Can't wait for the Spring to arrive. Yeah, I went to Illinois in the late 80's for Christmas.

Wow, I can say I have spirit of a migratory bird too! An arctic tern y'know And I travel a lot.
Haha I've been to Miami two times last year First in may (oh, pretty hot) and second in december (perfect weather)
You can swin with brown pelicans together xD
We also went to Keys in may and saw southernmost point buoy.

Hum, not sure which migratory bird I would be like. Certainly not a long distance planet flyer like the Arctic Tern. I like snow geese and Canada geese. I admire their endurance, but I don't now if I'd be one. Perhaps more like a Ruby Throated Hummingbird. They can fly across the Gulf of Mexico in one shot. Then they are tired and don't do it again for a many months. Haha.

Oh, I LOVE Miami. It's one of my favorite cities. Our hottest months are July and August. August is terrible sometimes. We have lots of nice birds here. I love Keys too. That's great, you probably saw the famous sign that says, 90 Miles to Cuba.

Ruby throated hummingbird are great birds! How can this bird fly nonstop across the Gulf of Mexico? Just awesome... But sometimes the wind is too strong for these little birds, they can't fly and die D:
Did you ever watch this movie? [link]

Perfect winter there
Haha my birthday is in august. This month can be terrible even in Moscow D: In 2010 it was an apocalypse [link]
I've counted all the birds seen there in may, it was more than 80 species c:
Yep [link]

Yeah, I have read they fly way up into the sky then shoot at an angle towards land so they only have to use half the energy, but yes a bad head wind can ruin everything for the poor things. Sometimes they land on ships to rest. Yes, I have seen Winged Migration. I was not a big fan of it. I prefer Attenborough's Life of Birds series because he explains everything and it's not so artsy. I like movies to be either educational or entertaining. There is a very are documentary from the 80's I have that I used to watch as a kid called Flight of the Snow Goose. Winged Migration was not the first to make that kind of movie and since everyone has forgotten I think they took a lot of the ideas from Flight of the Snow Goose. This documentary and book inspired the awesome movie Fly Away Home which is one of my favorite bird movies. It's hard to get me emotional in movies but Fly Away Home always does it for me. I wish I could fly and be a bird.

Moscow? So where do you live? I saw on your profile it said Italy. You must travel a lot if you have a house in both countries. I have been to Italy on a tour once in the 90's and of all the European countries I saw it was one of my favorites. Also Germany. I went in July for my birthday so the weather was so nice there. I would die in Russia. Too cold.

I like to count birds too sometimes. I sometimes do the Great Backyard Bird Count which is for the U.S. and Canada. You go anywhere, even your own backyard and just count bird species. Then you send your numbers and location to the website. It's every February for four days.

For me is the same story with Winged Migration - the first movie I've seen in cinema, probably the first movie at all. I don't remember well but maybe because of this movie I love birds. That's why it means so much to me.
Yeah, this serie is very interesting and has many parts, love it too. In vkontakte (haha russian facebook) there's a group that has all the bird documentary. I'm going to watch it forever xD
Oh, I have to watch this movie! How old are you? You always say 80's and 90's

Yes, Moscow... But since last year I live most of the time in Italy, near Torino. I hope I'll study in US and stay there forever 'cause it's best country to live.
Do you prefer to go by plane, train or car?
From may till september is ok to go to Moscow, but now it's really cold D: Outside. In my room it's +26

Oh, this year I started to count all the birds I've seen. Did you see the movie "The Big Year"?

I became interested in birds when I was so young as a baby I saw one and couldn't believe how they could fly. I wanted to fly and be a bird so I fell in love with birds and tried to learn everything I can about them. I'm in my 30's. I don't like to say my age in public for safety reasons. I'm not ashamed. I could PM you and tell you. But I am an 80's child and grew up in that wonderful decade. I love so many things from the 80's. I'll see if I can render that movie into wmv and send it to you. I had never heard of vkontakte, but I know livejournal was bought by an Russian company. Do you have one?

I had a professor in university that did research in Kamchatka peninsula. That's where there are a lot of Steller's Sea Eagles. I love those eagles.
Yes the US is the best country in the world. I love my country. My parents came to this country in the 70's from Central America. I'm so happy I was born here and not there, though it is beautiful down there and they have the most beautiful birds in the world.

I like traveling by ship best. I may take a train for my first long distance trip this year. I hope I can so that will be new. I like car trips if they are long road trips and I can see everything, but not in the city or suburbs. I don't like planes anymore just because they made the security to scary now. It's not fun like it used to be, but that used to be my favorite when I was a kid. I love the feel of take off but it is uncomfortable and you can't see much.
I have not seen The Big Year but I read the book when it was new. I still have it and enjoyed it.

MadinkaClaireC In reply to Thagirion [2013-01-29 18:25:11 +0000 UTC]

That's ok, 'cause I'm feeling like a little girl when you say 80's xD

Oh, Kamchatka is an awesome place, pity I've never been to this peninsula. The problem is that Russia is too big, you just can't go there so easily.
I don't like my country as a country to live. Of course it's beautiful and the biggest one, but still very low level.
South America has the largest number of bird species c:

But now all the flights are much more safe. Actually there's only US and Israel with so strong security in airports.
If clouds yes, but with good weather you can see much more than in any place in the world c:
I like planes^^

Hehe, to me the 80's were just yesterday. I remember so many things so clearly it doesn't feel like time has passed. Don't feel that way. It was a great time period though. I don't think people's age is important as long as their mind is the right age. It's my own personal theory I have. But, you know how they say things like "Wise beyond their years" or "A child at heart". You're only as old or as young as you feel.

If you're lucky to get a window on a plane and not over the wing then that is good. I always have to have a window seat. Once I sat in the middle and hated that. I like looking at planes and like different kinds of planes. I'm hoping I can go on a Cruise to the Caribbean this winter and if I can I will visit St. Maarten. They have an airport on the beach and airplanes land really low. It is amazing! So I want to go see that.

MadinkaClaireC In reply to Thagirion [2013-01-30 13:35:25 +0000 UTC]

I hate middle seats too D:< Especially in big planes - they have only 2 window seats of 10 in row.
That's my dream to go to St. Maarten and watch these planes at landing *.*
