Description Ceratosaurus nasicornis, a ceratosaurid from the Late Jurassic of western North America, 156-150 million years ago. A distant relative of the Gondwanan Abelisaurids of the late Cretaceous sharing the same family lineage, it was an inhabitant of semiarid floodplains and conifer forests which would have preyed upon smaller animals such as young sauropods and thyreophorans (the larger contemporary Allosaurus may have went after more agile prey such as ornithopods and large sauropods since it was probably built for speed with longer legs and longer arms) it was a stocky animals that was 7 meters long, with short legs, small arms, a hide made of osteoderms similar to those of crocodilians, and above all three crests atop its stocky head; two serving in the form of brow horns and another serving as a nasal horn. The crests were strictly used for display purposes since they were probably made of keratin.
Ceratosaurus may also have been capable of swimming across rivers and lakes to reach one place from another.
