Description

Time to reveal another of my guilty pleasures to you all: I love Disney Fairies. I REALLY DO.

I was never a fan of Peter Pan 1953...  which is, probably, the worst book-to-movie adaptation Disney ever made *alongside Pinocchio. I don't know how many of you know the original italian novel... but let me say that's completely different from what Uncle Walt show us XD*
I grow up reading Barrie's books (which I adore) and picturing Captain Hook as a very dangerous foe, so you can easily imagine how the animated version of him -coward and goofy- disappoited me.

BUT--

When the TinkerBell movie came out, I kept an eye on it, though I really was TOO older for such movie eheh. The first trailer was very evocative, so I decided to buy the DVD when I found a copy in a discount bin at a local video outlet.
Decent movie, nothing less, nothing more. But something ***maybe the little sparkle of emotion in the end?*** convinced me to watch the second movie and I really enjoyed it. What about the third ? Even better. Last year 'Secret of the Wings' came out and... well, let's say that I completely fell in love with the franchise
Yesterday I get my hands on 'The Pirate Fairy' and I'm happy to say that finally... Disney gave us an adorable yet extremely cruel (and younger) Hook! An applause to Tom Hiddleston who added some 'Lokiness' to the character through voice acting.

Now, I'm waiting for the next, and sadly last, movie of the series, hoping that's going to be as good as the previous two!!!

-----

*cleas throat* Uh, where were we? Oh, yes! I was reading 'The Witchcraft of Ulua' by Clark Ashton Smith.
My gods. Disney Fairies and Zothique in one day. My sanity! MY SANITY!!!

I am SO HAPPY that I'm not alone in loving the Disney Fairies series!!! I started rewatching them recently, and forgot how much I loved Tom Hiddleston as young James Hook! I love your artwork for him! and I agree, James was teaming with Loki

I bought all six of the Disney fairies films as a set after watching the first film on Netflix, and I fell in love with them. In my opinion the first three are so-so, but from Secret of the Wings onwards are absolutely amazing. My personal favourite is Legend of the NeverBeast, but Pirate Fairy was definitely a good one. James was definitely one of the best characters, and I never knew he was voiced by Tom Hiddleston. That just makes the whole film like 50 times better 😊

You see? His destiny was his own, and his was to be evil, pure and simple. Barrie was a fool to make him a 'gentleman'. He never a thing about telling a story.

I really liked the "Hook" version of the good captain, swave and totally in control. Kinda noble in his black hearted sort of way. If you haven't seen this Robin Williams film you should look it up. So many people are in that movie it's not even funny lol (big name actors who played bit parts)

I loved this movie, and Tom for James was a great choice! It really showed how Hook is manipulative as well as out right cruel.

I'm torn on this movie. On the one hand, it's not a TERRIBLE performance. Or a terrible movie. The first third with Zarina is great - I love her scenes with Fairy Gary, I love her enthusiasm, I love her experiments. And there are some nice scenes after she leaves (though the business of her leaving and coming back was handled clumsily). And I squeeed a little bit every time Tinkerbell did some Waterbending (it's sad when the Pirate Fairy has Katara doing more Waterbending than the entirety of Legend of Korra).

On the other hand, it screws up continuity yet again, spends 20 minutes letting James brag, AND doesn't have a single other member of the crew of the Jolly Roger! And he should NOT be making eyes like those at a girl like Zarina - shame on you, you dirty little Loki fanservice. And seriously? Kristin Chenoweth never got a song, Rob Paulson and Jeff Bennett only got that weird poem but no song, but Tom Hiddleston got a song. AND it's available on iTunes for purchase! That's just not fair!

For a direct-to-DVD movie, -thought it had been screened in some cinemas too- it's actually good, but I agree with you about Zarina's leaving. If such a thing happened to Fawn, Vidia or any other of the protagonists, Tink would have followed her without hesitation and convinced her to come back home. At the beginning, it looks like no one really cares for Zarina (except Fairy Gary himself, perhaps ) but that's exactly why she ended up forming an alliance with pirates. But yeah, that part has been a bit rushed.

As for the crew, the ship shown in the movie isn't the Jolly Roger, which appears only in a 'secret' scene right after the credits with Smee on board.
I actually enjoyed the fanservice thing ! I'm not a crazy Hiddleston/Loki fangirl, but I always appreciate some heroine/villain fluff.

are you series Walt Disney was your Uncle?

yeah I agree Hook was not the terrifying Villian like Maleficent Jafar and the wicked Stepmother but I bet Walt wanted one of the his upcoming villains to be a bite of a goof so Hook must have fit the bill.

is the next one called the never Beast really the last one I was hoping they make one revealing how Peter Pan comes into the picture.

also get this after watching Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy I got inspired to write a book about a untold story of Peter Pan and Captain hook from there Origins to how they first met and how there conflict started because think about it we all know the story of Peter Pan we know who Captain Hook is he is a Pirate he does not like Peter because Peter maid him lose his hand to a crocadile but we have never known what happen before that so I thought I write a book about that.

Well, actually, some things ticked me off about him . Like how he swallows the clock ,and the fact that James wants to escape him at the end, instead of you know....killing the small not-yet-monstrous reptile .

Disney did mess up The Jungle Book twice; once animated and once live action. I assumed that all the direct-to-DVD work was dreadful, but it sounds like some of it may be done by people who have some creative freedom due to the non-majorness.

The first movie isn't that good, but the others are quite enjoyable. Graphic is very good, I expecially love how they focused on wildlife and natural landscapes of Neverland, everything feels authentic thanks to realistic particle effect for smoke, mist and dust... for example, there's a short clip in the second movie (set in Autumn) which shows a mountain valley at dawn that's simply breathtaking. I can't say the same thing for characters, since they look a bit like they're made of plastic but animation is is smooth and pleasant to watch. But, above all, I really do appreciate the director and scriptwriter's job. Story is always well paced and the short lenght helps to stave off boring moments.
