Description 10th avenue is the last remaining slummy part of manhattan .. its inhabitants range from rockers to the hipster wannabes residing in lofts to the homeless to criminals of every sort .. as peaceful as any ghost town in the day, this quiet, grungy refuge has a seedier and darker nature at night ..

when i first came to this my only thought was "oh cool broken glass" .. it is a shame that i didn't realize that this was a smashed car door window until i was editing this .. it makes you wonder .. what was taken? the radio? an expensive item left in the car? the car itself? we will never know .. all we have is this frozen aftermath of theft .. the thing that the desperate or (overtly lazy and greedy) resort to ...

It's so funny, the first time I ever went to Cleveland I was getting out of the vehicle and noticed that the car we parked behind (on the side of the road) had a bunch of glass like that beside it. It wasn't until our eyes travelled upward that we saw that the glass came from THAT car and that there were still some pieces hanging off of the little rubbery part where the window comes out from the door. It's funny, they left the brick right there on the ground beside it. . Cleveland is still a beautiful city but it probably wasn't a good idea that we three teenagers went walking around the mall there after 10 by ourselves. Haha

I really like the angle of this shot. It really creates a snese of chaos I think.

Very good shot, and the composition is spot on - particularly the focus on the glass

However, I can discern a slight arc in the blur tool use around the glass which makes it a bit obvious on inspection. I would have been tempted to try and do this effect via in-camera DoF, or at least a lot longer in PS.

i was quite disappointed in my inability to get correct DOF around that time ., in fact, it is one of the things i am still trying to get better at. i know it is simpky a natter of the aperture used, but that doesnt seem to help. i have been mesing around with my focusing and metering settings .. i think it would be best to reset them.

thanks for your honest opinion and help though .. it is very much appreciated.

super cool shot, and, well, it almost makes it more interesting that you didn't realize what this actually was until later The idea of this alone is cool, and again your description is great.
The focus on this rocks, and makes this so interesting, the clarity on the main stuff is awesome, and the blurry bit is great as well.
Love the lighting and tones as well,...

besides the great composition (lines, dof) that i like, this pic really tells a story. and this is what makes it very special.

I love the edgy, gritty feel of this. A great job of capturing the aftermath of crime...the sadness, the loss, and the frustration. Beautiful job man!

I see stuff like this when I go to the DIA (Detroit Institute of Art) all the time. It's unfortunate that there's so much crime in urban development. The reason I'm faving this is because it makes me think of the person who owns the car, and the money it costed him or her to get it fixed, as well as replace whatever was stolen. It's sad to see people destroy other's possesions to better themselves.

I love how you focus so deep on the glass. Especially the artisit's comment once again really helps to bring out the story in it. Magnificent work!

I like the way you have of capturing camera images from unusual angles. I like the title and the info contained in your commentary. Only someone familiar with "life in the big city" could REALLY appreciate what you have here...especially if they were ever a victim. Keep it
