A lovely battle, indeed.
And, admittedly, I'd be rooting for Freddy, although I know the odds are 50-50 for him.
Say what you will about Freddy, but I believe that with enough persistence and creativity on his part, the ol' dream demon could win.
Hellboy isn't too terrible of a character, don't get me wrong; in fact, I even respect Red a little.
But, in the end, having to choose between the two, I'm sticking to dear ol' Freddy.
Even if his ass loses, in the end; because, when it all comes down to it, Freddy has never truly lost.
Not when he is the undying dream-stalking incarnation of evil that he is.
And though Hollywood would try to make him lose in the films, I'd still be supporting him.
Perhaps it's partially the instinct of rooting for the "underdog," but it's also simply due to the fact that I just love Freddy that much... β™₯

I wonder who wins... Oh, what, I think "immortal" pretty much ensures Freddy, and the fact the he can change shape and wrap dreams to his will.

I'm simply judging by what the Freddy movies have portrayed and not necessarily how I think of the character. If he were rebooted as a Lovecraftian demi-god I think he'd make the baddest of the bad flee like screaming sissies. That certainly ain't what we've got from that series though; nor likely will we ever.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

rakaru In reply to SkeletonMurderer [2012-03-26 13:58:31 +0000 UTC]

And the character portrayed in the movies would kill Hellboy. How could Hellboy kill something that doesn't die, cant get hurt, knows all of his absolutely worst fears, and can change into anything he wants? Freddy could become Trevor and try to talk with Hellboy and as soon as he gets close BAM 4 knifes in Bellboy's throat.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

masterofhorr In reply to rakaru [2013-06-02 07:32:36 +0000 UTC]

He couldn't kill Hellboy even if he wanted to. If Hellboy gets, stabbed, crushed, or killed in the dreamworld, he'll STILL be alive in the real world.

rakaru In reply to masterofhorr [2013-06-02 17:24:23 +0000 UTC]

Please explain that, since I couldn't find anything saying that. As far as I know, if Freddy kills someone in a dream they die for real, how could Hellboy stop that?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

masterofhorr In reply to rakaru [2013-06-06 22:08:07 +0000 UTC]

Hellboy pulls him into the real world. Or he would find the source of his power and destroy it. Plus, if Freddy tries to stop him, Hellboy won't die.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

rakaru In reply to masterofhorr [2013-06-06 22:36:18 +0000 UTC]

How would Hellboy know that he could pull him into the real world? Freddy's source of power? Do you even know what that is? Cause I'm trying to think back and the best I could come up with are memories (forgetting him) and MAYBE his bones. And how would Hellboy stop him? In a dream, Freddy is more-or-less god.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

masterofhorr In reply to rakaru [2013-06-07 00:01:38 +0000 UTC]

Freddy's source of power is bones, Dream Demons, turning your back on him. Hellboy, would get help, like a smart person. Or he could accidentally do it. Freddy is not a god since he was beaten in the Dream World once in Nightmare part 4

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rakaru In reply to masterofhorr [2013-06-07 00:11:08 +0000 UTC]

Even destroying his bones did nothing, since he came back. When has he fought dream demons? Yeah, but first he would have to figure out he was in a dream and would have to hold off Freddy long enough to wake himself up. How would he accidentally go out and find Freddy's bones and than accidentally destroy them? In dreams he is, and even in Nightmare part 4 the main girl had to know the rhyme and have the power of at least 3 other trained dreamers.

Proof?

rakaru In reply to masterofhorr [2013-06-23 07:01:31 +0000 UTC]

Proof no. 1: Freddy is immortal within dreams.
Proof no. 2: The only way for Hellboy to kill Freddy is to go out, find his bones and burn them. In order to due that Hellboy must first wake up (an act that took the burning of a body part to do in Freddy vs Jason)
Proof no. 3: For Freddy to be defeated in a dream it would take the combined "dream energy" of one trained dream and two others, which Hellboy wouldn't have since its a 1-on-1 fight.
Proof no. 4: Within dreams Freddy is a type of god, he can change it to match his wants, and even change form to whatever he thinks will give him an upper hand.

Basically, Freddy could find out what Hellboy loves most, take that things form, fool Hellboy into thinking his not dreaming and bam, five knives through his chest.

Hellboy is not so easily fooled.Β

Β

For the waking up part, it didn't take the burning of a hand to do in the first one and in Freddy's Dead.Β

"Basically, Freddy could find out what Hellboy loves most, take that things form, fool Hellboy into thinking his not dreaming and bam, five knives through his chest."Β  That wouldn't kill Hellboy

The first Nightmare ends with the main character getting kidnapped by Freddy in the form of a car, she didn't defeat Freddy.

Basically, Freddy could find out what Hellboy loves most, take that
things form, fool Hellboy into thinking his not dreaming and bam, five
knives through his heart/brain/Freddy just blows him up. Better?

Yeah but Freddy was weakened and he wasn't able to hurt Nancy, I'd count that as a defeat.

One surviving isn't considered defeat for the other, and the second film took place only five years after the first, thats not quite a while at all.

SkeletonMurderer In reply to rakaru [2012-03-30 11:11:12 +0000 UTC]

Freddy Krueger can and has been defeated in all the Nightmare On Elm Street movies; he's essentially a poltergeist playing the boogieman and not in fact a demi-god as he'd like his child victims to believe. If your particularly strong-willed he can be defeated in dreams either by being tricked or simply by throwing up a mental barrier to deprive him of energy; also smudging his remains or point of origin can also drive him away. Of all the 80's slashers the one that actually came closest to godhood was Jason Voorhees as he's a walking curse. Jason VS Hellboy? Unless Hellboy could find some kind of magic or deus ex machina to kill a hulking zombie golem he's not walking away from that.

No, even when they "defeated" Freddy he still got them. In the first one, the chick thought she beat him and at the end she is in a car that controls it self, is it just a coincidence that this car is red and green stripped? In the second one he could change reality. Its true, he is a poltergeist, how is Hellboy going to kill that? As for Jason, he sucks, him and Micheal Myers both.

SkeletonMurderer In reply to rakaru [2012-03-30 22:56:38 +0000 UTC]

For parts 1 through 5, the reboot and Freddy VS Jason you're lead to believe that while Freddy can be defeated as an apparition he can never be altogether destroyed... Until Freddy's Dead and New Nightmare where he's destroyed. It's an old trope established in the slasher genre with Halloween where the antagonist is (inexplicably) less a man and more a spirit of evil. After nine films of this it's safe to assume in a clash of intellectual properties that Freddy as a villain, and Warner Brothers as a parent company, wouldn't promote a pedo-sweatered child killer as the winner of a fight between good and evil.

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

rakaru In reply to SkeletonMurderer [2012-03-31 01:05:45 +0000 UTC]

So, basically, Old school Freddy (which is the one depicted if I believe correctly) is unstoppable, or we are lead to believe so. Even in Freddy vs Jason, Freddy wasn't defeated even after his decapitation. So, again, I pose the question, how would Hellboy kill something that has no actual weakness?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

masterofhorr In reply to rakaru [2013-06-02 07:34:39 +0000 UTC]

He was defeated, just because he survives doesn't mean he's defeated. He also never came back in part 3. the ending in part 1 is just an open-ending used to beg for sequels, he still was defeated.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

SkeletonMurderer In reply to rakaru [2012-04-01 01:06:03 +0000 UTC]

If you take the sequels as canon than Freddy has alot of weaknesses being a poltergeist. If you look at the original film though you realize how silly the idea of Freddy Krueger being sequelized really is. The boogieman of A Nightmare On Elm Street is a construct of the protagonist's psyche, IE there never was a Freddy Krueger, the entire film is a nightmare from beginning to end to the point of the protagonist dreaming other people's dreams. Because the protagonist is afraid of rape she envisions the boogieman as an embodiment of those fears. When the series continued on they failed to realize that no two protagonists would have seen the boogieman the same way because of how personal each fear was. Freddy became a joke very quickly through both the sequels and as a foil for merchandising; Freddy has been a paycheck character to every writer he's ever had. Hellboy on the other hand has has long running success because the writers, particularly Mignola, have cared about his characterization and the development of the series. The argument is invalid because outside of fan-fiction nobody, even his creator, has ever given a shit about Freddy Krueger.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rakaru In reply to SkeletonMurderer [2012-04-01 01:09:46 +0000 UTC]

Every single thing you just said, that whole paragraph, is pointless because you did not answer my question. When ignoring Freddy wont destroy him, when decapitating Freddy wont kill him even outside of dreams, when he can shape shift, change mass, become anything, how would Hellboy defeat him? Its like putting Hellboy against a funnier Jason, he would lose.
