The linework's excellent. I guess Buttercup has her pre-transformation hat on. I have some issues with PPGZ, but I'll spare you all of that and just put it in my journal or something.

I could see where a lot of PPG fans would have issues with the show. I don't remember what her pre-transformation hat looks like, I just sorta made this one up.

Thank you! I generally worry about how perspective shots come out when I do drawings these days because people like to point out inconsistencies all the time. I spent some time getting this one to work as it does. The forefront arm bothered me a little after I inked it, but it doesn't as much now. I hope the effect comes off better once it's all colored.

This makes me wish that you could helm the show. Nicely drawn, sir, nicely drawn.

Thanks for that, although I'll probably never do anything in real animation. If I were an animator, I probably would adopt a much simpler drawing style where the characters had smaller pupils so they could be more expressive in motion, but since I only draw single images, I go for more flashy detailed stuff since I can't make them move.

Well you gotta do what works for you.
I'm talking more about you being creative director and/or character designer than animator.

Don't forget the cliche of "getting hit in the head" amnesia.
Oh and bacon on a cheesesteak is amazing, though not sanctioned by Philly...

Honestly I think I'd throw up if I put meatballs on a cheesesteak. I just wrote that because it amused me at the time.

It nice to see something from you that's in progress, usually everything I see you do is exquisitely rendered.
I think just about every cartoon series with children as the main characters has had an episode where they're temporarily transformed into adults/teenagers. It would be interesting to see you do a grandiose illustration with Johnny Quest, the Powerpuff Girls, Danny Phantom, and everyone else you can think of in their older forms.

I can't remember when Johnny Quest ever became an adult, excpet for that one Venture Brothers episode where he's all insane and coked-up. And that was good. Interesting concept for a drawing though. I haven't seen much Danny Phantom so I have no idea if he ever grew up temporarily. I know what you mean though, it's like every eighties cartoon having an episode where the main characters shrink. I think every single one of them had that episode, and it was always very boring. "Oh no, I must jump around on the keyboard to communicate with my friends!" Bah.

Wow, I just watched a couple episodes of Powerpuff Girls Z on YouTube and that is absolutely insane. I like how Mojo Jojo has been superfused with Dr. Wily from the Megaman series. Absolutely brilliant.
To tell you the truth, I really don't remember any specifics from Johnny Quest episodes ... just the intro and that it was a really racist cartoon. Although, I'm sure they did an older Johnny episode ... as sure as I am that they did a shrinking character episode, and a one character switching bodies with another episode, and an episode with every other cartoon cliche that's out there.
Hmm, we should write down all of these cartoon cliches and make a cartoon of our own. It seems that the writing is already done for us ... we'd just have to handle the design and animation.

PPGZ does have a pretty heavy Megaman look to it, which is probably a big reason why I like it.
That idea about making a cartoon entirely out of cartoon cliches sounds promising. I'll tinker around with the concept, maybe try and create some generic cliche characters to go into it. Let me know if you are hit with any wild inspiration.

Cliche characters are good. We could easily do a parody of 80s Saturday Morning Cartoons. They're all basically the same format.

Powerpuff Girls Z is an actual anime based loosely on the original show. There are some slight differences, like the fact that the girls have to change into super-powered figures magical girl style, so they have secret identities. They are also not sisters, but rather just friends. The Professor has a son they like to pick on. Otherwise, it's almost identical. The villains are pretty much the same, save for slight artistic license (Mojo Jojo is tall and broad, but essentially the same character). I don't know if many PPG fans would actually like it or not, but I'm certain it will be on American TV in the near future so they'll probably get a chance to find out.

That's so cool! It's fascinating to see a new take on a relatively recent show, rather than a reinvention of a very old one. And this picture rocks, too.

Thanks. Besides the hat, I basically kept her exactly the same. It's just drawn my way rather than the anime style. I believe the character designs were done by the person to did the anime designs for Sailor Moon. It looks pretty similar.

I'm going to have to go check out the official character designs now. Though it's kind of disappointing to learn that the official style parallels Sailor Moon's after seeing your awesome representation. You should work your way to the top of an animation studio. Really. I'd love to see your drawing style in motion.
