This is an amazing drawing! It is so realistic I could mistake it for a photo. What did you draw it with? Pens? Colored pencils? Incredible effect!

Thank you I used soft and hard pastels and pastel pencils on mi-teintes paper for this one

I have a lot to learn. I usually just use Crayola pencils. I get kidded about still drawing w/ crayons as I approach 50 years of age. Are pastel pencils like Crayola colored pencils? I also am unfamiliar w/ miteintes paper. ???Β I I draw on everything from tracing paper to construction paper.

no pastels are worlds apart from crayons, if i am correct crayolas are wax based crayons (i suppose a bit like the neocolor crayons from caran 'd ache) but pastel(pencils) have no wax, they are just pure sticks or leads (in the pencil case) that consist of pure pigment with a little bit of binder, it's very soft and almost chalk like and literally becomes dust when you apply it, so you can easily make gradients and blurs by rubbing your finger or a dry brush over it, it however does need paper with a lot of texture (tooth) and mi-teintes paper is such a paper, the texture holds on to the pastels, on smooth paper it would fall off and you wouldn't be able to layer much, it is a very messy medium and sometimes you will need to use a fixate spray if you want to seal the pastels on your paper.

Do you think you will ever do a pastel tutorial? Or do you have any that you personally use? I'm dying to know your secrets.

mangakasan In reply to DragonMachine [2015-04-20 15:35:21 +0000 UTC]

I plan to do some video tutorials in the near future and maybe some written ones when i got time, tho my fav brands for soft pastels are Rembrandt and unison, for hard pastels Faber Castell and pastel pencils, Derwent,Faber Castell, Stabillo and Caran 'd ache, but if you have any questions or want to know anything feel free to nudge me about it :3
