Description
This is Enma Ai, the Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl)I finished watching Jigoku Shoujo the other day, and wanted to draw Ai in a more realistic style. Also, I just found a new painting program called SAI, which is kinda like a cross between openCanvas and Painter XD, and wanted to try it out. It's pretty cool, though it's lacking a text tool....
I used a couple of reference scans for the pose and her face. It's all pretty much random, as I didn't really know what I was trying to achieve XD. It ended up with a much older version of Ai, in a cross between a semi-realistic style and the anime style >__<
I couldn't decide on what to put for a background, so did some quick airbrushing for a vague Torii (the gate to a Shinto shrine), some bushes and sakura XD
Took me 2 nights, one to get used to the program and one to actually draw (and redraw DX). Used the default brush tool for everything, 'cause the advanced settings confuse me XD

It's okay, though a bit repetitive. It's pretty episodic, with a bit of connecting storyline towards the end. It's not bad, but not great either. I just really like Ai's character design for some reason XD

Impressive work, Maple. I have yet to see that anime (Hell Girl), since I have made a personal Vow to only watch a fansub if the anime has no chance to come out in the US.
But thats off topic. The flowers add a rather delicate touch to it... and with the black robes.... it is both strong and fragile. Beauty Personifed?

Hmm... I knew as much, but when people usually say they have "seen" a series in this day and age, it usually means that they downloaded a fansub. But, I guess i should not have assumed as much with you.

yeah, Ai's character design is pretty ^__^ She has a lot of different kimono prints, but this one is my fave ^^

Summary for this series: if you have a grudge against someone, you go to this website at midnight and enter your enemy's name, and Jigoku Shoujo (Enma Ai) will take revenge for you by dragging that person to Hell. However, when you die, your soul will also go to Hell.

rofl, I'm actually trying out Sai as I type this. Much more mouse friendly than oC, I like it.
idk why, but I like the vague airbrushy background thing.
Ai's body is slanted towards the right, though.

cool, I jumped right into trying to do a picture XD It feels kinda different than oC with a tablet, I dunno how to explain it, but it feels lighter >__< Though I don't like the key shortcuts as much ('cause I got tablet buttons all configured for oC XD), and don't like the lack of opacity pressure control (or maybe I just haven't found it yet)... Though the "vector" thing is seriously awesome
