Description North American River Otters enjoying the evening Sun. I adore otters as I consider them to be very intelligent, playful and beautiful animals. They are superb swimmers.
This Sennelier watercolour painting is based and adapted from my own photography. 
Lontra canadensis.

This is a beautiful, precisely drawn watercolour, it's one of those things I love about them, you can make very loose, transparent paintings and then you can get into realistic detail, such as this painting has well done!

Thank you. I used quite alot of layers, but not in a 'direct' sense..I worked on one part of the painting at a time (adding layers)..When it came to looking more completed I added a final layer. I did not count, but probably at least 3, probably 4 layers in some areas of the composition.

Thank you. They really are, in real life. Even though they are of course predators, there is something very sweet about them..they make me think of dolphins (I know that probably sounds odd, but they have that kind of personality in my opinion).

yeah they are so sweet. I agree they are very much like dolphins. dolphins are my favorite, I love them.
They are so playful and have great agility! If I could be an animal I would probably want to be a dolphin. lol
