This is a bag I embroidered to promote Aselia Con, the first Tales convention in North America! The con is in its planning phase and will be presented by Tales of Outlaw, a southwest-US based Tales fan group. I completely flipped out when I saw that there was a convention being planned. Unfortunately very slim chance I could go cause it would be during school and I live about a thousand miles away in Illinois.

And I understand, I grew up in Michigan so I knooooooow how long that drive is, I've had to do it many times :/ But anyway maybe I'll see you at A-Cen someday!

You were the awesome Cheria?! I was Cless Albane. Except I was running really late for that photoshoot so my armor wasn't sitting right and I was wig-less.

Yep. And then we weren't in many photos after that. That is the main problem with that photoshoot: Show up as a character that's not from Vesperia/Symphonia/Abyss and you get ignored.
I ended up on the side with the Symphonia group and they had no idea who I was.

Yeah...sadly I left pretty much right after our shot together because I experience this the year before as well. I had to awkwardly pose in one picture completely by myself while people in the crowd whispered "what is she supposed to be?" and then nothing after that (short of the "all the girls surround Guy!" and "good guys vs bad guys!" generic poses that they do every year....) Siiiigh I love A-Cen but the Tales fans there...are not so "in the know" about Tales. But clearly you are an exception! We need to hang out at the next A-Cen!

Yeah, I have to admit that this past year was my least favorite of the photoshoots I had been to (I used to cosplay Sync before switching). The con itself for me wasn't so bad, I had a few people that were excited to see a Cless, but I left that photoshoot feeling pretty disappointed. I wanted to shake one of the cosplayers after the line, "Oh Phantasia? That's not really the game you think of when you hear 'Tales'." It's not as bad as what happened to you (and hopefully you will have a lot more people since Graces will have been out in the US for longer by next Acen); but I was the first Tales hero and Namco love putting Cless in everything they can and just....frustration. I hate to see what would have happened if I'd shown up as Mao.
We can hang out next Acen! We can be "in the know" Tales fans together!

Yeah I understood SORT OF when they didn't know who Cheria was *before* Graces came out, but I expected to see quite a few Graces people at the shoot this past year and was so ready to have fun NOT being awkwardly alone this time. Especially since when I debuted Cheria at A-Kon (even quite a bit before Graces was even localized) I was recognized by a ton of people. I don't know why the medwest region seems to be so much less interested in Tales than the south...I hosted a Tales panel at A-Kon this year and expected only a few people to show up but instead we maxed out the fire code capacity of the room and had people waiting outside still. Thaaaat's why we're hosting Aselia Con in the south
And yes, finally a real Tales fan I can hang out with at A-Cen! If all goes well I'll be cosplaying Milla from Xillia so heaven knows no one is going to know who I am ~.~

It might just be the lack of diversity in the midwest? It is pretty hard to find Tales games here in normal stores and my collection of the games were largely from the internet and cons. I am so jealous of the Tales panel. There was suppose to be one at Acen a few years ago but it was canceled and then the trivia panel that it was replaced with ended up becoming a little Tales of trivia panel.
I wish you luck at that! At some point I'd really love to be Elise but her costume is so much work. But whatever costume you end up in, I want pictures because I swear that whatever camera I have is dead within the first minute of the photoshoot.

I remember when that Tales panel got cancelled at A-Cen. I was so disappointed and then my friend, who knows what a huge Tales nerd I am, suggested I just take over the room and host the panel myself XD That's when I got the idea to do my own Tales panel...and that's what let to Aselia Con becoming a thing
If somehow you do get Elise together it would be so amazing! For once I would have someone to pose with at the shoot!

Oh Aselia Con. I want to go so badly but I'll have to wait until I'm not so full of school and other things. You should have a panel at Acen! It would be amazing. Just made of pure amazing.
Well I have the sneaking suspiscion that we'll end up in the same picture either way. I would love to do it, just I get out of school the week of Acen so I only have time for finishing touches. XD I should just work my butt off winter break; it's the only time that I wouldn't overheat in the costume at least.

Well we can always hope that we get more people, though I've pretty much given up hope of ever finding another Phantasia cosplayer. The game is just too old.

Sorry about not getting back to you, college is already a bit of a hassle. I really want a group, but I only have one other Tales friend nearby that cosplays. I might be switching back to Sync for the next photoshoot since she is thinks she's ready to try to pull off Dist.

how did you get the collar to stay up? the fabric I'm using is pretty loose but I had to compensate for my friend cause i don't want her boiling to death in that heat.

I actually sewed craft foam into the collar. I did it this way because it was one of my first costumes and I didn't know any better way. If I were remaking the costume now, I would use heavy interfacing. (That innerfuse stuff)

The craft foam works just fine for this, the only downside is that you can't run the costume through a washing machine, you'll need to handwash it

honestly, i would only handwash my cosplays too. unless I washed the fabric first several times, i'd be way too concerned the dyes blending or something going terribly wrong.

I worry about that too. I had one cosplay I put in the wash because my cat peed on it -.- It came out fine but I was so worried it was going to bleed dye or fall apart XD

I only did that with yuri's shirt but that was because i had altered an old turtleneck. everything held together but i would never dry it.
on the dye part, i was even thinking of using one of those shout dye catchers.
