I once roled a D&D wizard modeled after Rhialto; especially appropriate, since Gygax used Vance's magic system almost wholesale.

A real lady's man.
Jack Vance's original concept was that few more than a hundred spells remained to man's knowledge and even the most highly trained minds could not memorize more than 4 of the greater spells or 6 of the lesser. Speaking a spell caused you to forget it and need to rememorize it.
Jack Vance seems to have forgotten that and now his adepts fling spells around like sunflower seeds !
