here's my spin on it
Ice Bag-Wendy
Moon Symbol Thingy-Stanford
Pine Tree-Dipper
Pentagram-Gideon
6 Fingered Hand-Stanley(?)
Llama-Pacifica
Shooting Star-Mabel
Stitched Heart-Robbie
Glasses-McGucket(?)
Question Mark-Soos
the hand and glasses are kinda unclear right now. some of these characters are sorta obligated to their respective symbols at this point (pine tree and shooting star) while others i have some deeper explanations for (ice bag, pentagram, llama, stitched heart), if your interested in hearing me out

Marijane-Akuma In reply to TheKawaiifan [2015-03-16 16:34:24 +0000 UTC]
I agree on the moon, pine tree, shooting star, pentgram and question mark, these are obvious anyways
I think the stitched heart is robbie too, because he always wears it and there are things with robbie that just wouldn´t work, so there´s something coming up with him TOO (Alex made some hints and wouldn´t answer questions about Robbie, because he would spoiler so yeah), somewhere in the future (many think he got a twin/clone)
I always thought stanley was the glasses - but then he was revealed as the author with six fingers - so he is the six fingered hand, if ya ask me at least(always thought the author was an extra person yannow), after all it would only make scence, but the glasses are Stanleys glasses, so urrgh
Why do ya think Pacifica is the Llama? Except that she HAS to be one of the symbols, like, any specific reason?
And yes I´m very interested.

In Dreamscaperers, when the # 2 Journal is shown, even the _author_ shows surprise by his glasses on the Cipher wheel. He marks the Glasses with a "!!!" notation. Not the 6 fingered hand, which a polydactylous person would obviously associate with themselves.
vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/gravityfalls/images/8/8d/S1e19_Bill%27s_creature_page.png
So the oddity was already noted by Author / 6 Fingers / Round glasses.
Or maybe the 6 Fingered Hand on the wheel represents the Journals themselves. When Bill was summoned by Gideon, Cipher cackled _maniacally_ like a demon returning from banishment would. If that is the case, that alone might justify their own slot on the Nightmare Realm Wheel.

get comfortable. we'll be here awhile
when i assign these images to each character, i prefer to do so with actual depth and meaning in mind; not simply said character's clothing items and motifs. with that logic, any kid who has bought a hat at the Mystery Shack is a valid candidate for the Pine Tree slot, or anyone who bought that hoodie at Edgy on Purpose. If i were to assign characters a list of symbols, i probably would've put some thought into it.
with Pacifica, both logics apply here. With the motif logic, I like to start with a certain remark Alex made during that ama on reddit. "Pacifica is literally the diametric opposite of Mabel" he said. The llama on the cipher wheel and the one on Mabel's sweater are facing opposite directions. the sweater llama is clearly smiling, while the wheel llama has a relatively more serious look on it's not-very-detailed face. sounds like pacifica and mabel to me. the motif logic can be taken further with the llama painting in NMM.
Symbolically, it's easy to start off with the "Nature's Greatest Warriors" remark. It's easy to take this and point to Wendy, though in the case of Pacifica, it's not a battle of physical combat. A definition i've found for the word 'Warrior' is "a brave fighter". What she did in NMM was a very brave move, defying her parents and all. I personally found it especially moving that she managed to overcome her own triggers and conditioning. That bell is one heck of a psychological wall to get over.
But when you really think about it, this isn't the only time we've seen her fight. Pacifica seems to have this natural fiery and spunky attitude. Whether it's competing, teasing or just getting straight up angry, she often has this sarcastic and snarky attitude. Also I thought it was fun seeing her get mad and shout at the liliputtians towards the end of Golf War. something our other female warrior (wendy) doesn't seem to do.
but this personality trait can be taken even further when you look at how she speaks to her parents. you know, the adults in her life who seem to have an iron grip on her. before golf war, i'd portray pacifica in roleplays as the kind of girl who would speak formally and respectfully to her parents. golf war proved me wrong. her dialogue and tone of voice was anything but formal. "Dad, I've been practicing for like, a million hours, ok!? I got this!" sounded a bit like mouthing off to me. mouthing off to the father she's supposed to be so afraid of. wow. even in NMM she didn't seem to hesitate to talk back and protest to them; up until that dang bell came in anyways. seriously, what the heck did they do to her?
almost every appearance she has made in the series is yet another battle for her. the battle for the party crown (though i don't think she was taking mabel seriously as a threat until the end of the episode). the battle for the spotlight (mabel's an attention hog, and pioneer day is supposed to celebrate the northwests). the battle at a mini golf course. almost every pacifica episode is a versus episode. whether that story is the a plot or b plot.
with the nature thing, though this can tie into the motif logic, let's look at Pacifica's aesthetic. inbetween seasons i was putting together my Pacifica cosplay when my Mom pointed something out to me. Pacifica's style seemed very earthy; what with the fur boots, raccoon hat and fringe. this opened doors for a more 60's inspired style for whenever i wanted to play dress up and put her in a different outfit. but even after season 1, a trend continued. fur reappeared with her purple dress in NMM.
Often times when i hear "Pacifica Northwest", I think of the Pacific Ocean. Partially because I live in Washington State, which is part of that region. The words "Pacific Northwest" get tossed around allot. Before Mabel's guide to colors, Pacifica consistently wore cooler toned colors of purple and blue. in golf war she was seen looking into a compact mirror that resembled a clam shell. there is also the lakefoam green dress. green is another cool color, and is often thought of as the color of nature. this is the dress pacifica wanted to wear fyi. dont forget the Pacifica Mermaid statue from the episode.
"Pacifica" is a Spanish/Portugese name that translates to "Bringer of Peace". This probably alludes to when Pacifica brought peace to the lumberjack ghost. This also gives me all the more excuse to associate her with the 60's hippie inspired trends.
Llama's themselves in real life do share some parallels to this girl. Llama's are very social animals, often preferring to travel in herds. They are intelligent, and can learn simple tasks with only few repetitions. Being social herd animals, there's always that ever-present hierarchy. Llamas are known for spitting, and tend to enforce dominance by spitting at lower ranking members in the herd. sound familiar?
fun fact: in some western regions of the US, a Llama may be used to guard a farmer's sheep from predators. doesn't this show have a bit of a lamb? and oregon is located in the west. Dipper's been called a sheep more than once. And a quote I always found intriguing is when Gideon was being driven away during the season finale, he says this: "Y'all are sheep! Ya need me!"
sheep are known for being sacrificial animals, often subjects of slaughter during various rituals and ceremonies; which could allude to Gideon's symbol being the pentagram. if dipper and/or the town are sheep, and pacifica is the llama, then does that mean she may be protecting them? maybe in context of Northwest Mansion Mystery. or maybe i'm just going off the deep end

Okay WOW a lot to take in - and thx for this explicit explanation - I´m actually really impressed.
So with Pac being the Llama is totally reasonable (I hope that´s the right word? idk), but why would McGucket be the glasses?
After what we saw in nwhs, Stanley´s GOT to be the glasses (let´s not forget the thing with the carpet diem, where we actually SEE his glasses and Stanfords look directed at them, bet the room was Stanley´s former one) - my friend and I think the hand stands only for the books.
Also, we agreed that either that Bill needs all the things of his wheel as a protection spell for the real world/summoning-needed-stuff OR he´s gonna use all of it for his "big plans" OR he wants to destroy all the things represented so that he can actually fully rise OR Alex wants to troll us and has fun seeing us flippin tables with theories about whatever, and he just presents the main characters. What do ya think bout those theories?
No wait I just looked at the picture again - so the hand´s Stanley, cauz the books and his HANDs goddamnit, and the glasses are the ones of fiddleford! I mean, he wears them - wore them, actually, right? And Stanley noticed this, thus made the exclamation marks at them, because there might be a deeper relationship between those two than we thought? Not like the gay thing, but maybe one of these I-owe-you-my-life thingies or just really good friends or idk.

TheKawaiifan In reply to Marijane-Akuma [2015-03-29 05:32:15 +0000 UTC]
thanks. and honestly, i dont really know. stanley's a good candidate for both the glasses and the hand. but giving him both positions feels wrong and forced. i don't know where to place McGucket, and i feel obligated to include him. because of this uncertainty, i haven't done much research or thinking as too what the glasses could possibly represent. i did theorize long ago on who the symbols may belong too (though there were some switched up slots). i did use the same symbolism logic though. the glasses could be a representation of clearer vision and a new perspective. i haven't really dedicated much thought to it though
considering that all the other slots go to actual human characters, it doesn't make much sense to me as to why one slot would go to some books. the books arn't alive, nor are they inheritantly magic. they are just filled with content that catalogues the magical and supernatural happenings.
further point, is that I think it's made clear that Bill wants each person to be alive. he's had plenty of chances to kill off a couple slot holders, but didn't. he could've destroyed Dipper, Mabel and Soos when they were in Stan's Mind, but instead he let them go saying that they'd be "important later". He also had the chance to really screw with Stan while in his head, but besides the dreamboyz, stan woke up okay. Bill also had the chance to kill Dipper while in his body, but didn't. instead he hunted down the journal.
which brings me to my point. if this is true and bill wants all his players to be alive and in place, then it wouldn't make sense for him to want to destroy the journals if they take up a slot. wouldn't that be counterproductive?
as for what the wheel means in the big picture, well, i don't know. douglas mackeral once called it a "prophecy" and i used to call it the same thing a couple years ago (mostly cuz it sounded cool). what it's prophesizing though is left unclear. and the only time we've ever seen the wheel outside of the opening credits is twice in Dreamscaperers. When Gideon was flipping through Journal 2, and when Bill was leaving Stan's mind. i think the first time was simply just to clue viewers in that the long rumored "pyramid guy" was finally coming. the second time may have some significance. the exact words Bill says when the wheel is on screen is "I'LL BE WATCHING YOUUUUUU!!!!!!!"
this could just mean that Bill is keeping a close eye on whoever is represented on each slot.
a possibility is mentioned in the book, "Dipper's and Mabel's Guide to Mystery and Nonstop Fun". in it, Bill writes a couple pages. he writes saying that Dipper is in denial about a looming destruction that crawls closer and closer. and he mentions something about the rise of his nightmare realm. the last sentence goes, "his simpleminded codes and supernatural tips won't help him when the rise of my nightmare realm brings forth a...well, i'm getting ahead of myself. Let's just say it's gonna be a real party!"
the first part im guessing is more of a reference to Not What He Seems. For awhile Dipper was in total denial about Grunkle Stan and the doomsday device, and was definitely in denial back at the Northwest's party. and i don't blame him. Dipper has enough reason to believe the world wont end anytime soon. the mailbox predicted that it will end in 3012. and Blendin Blandin is from 207̃012. this gives him enough reason to believe that the world will be lasting a looooong time.
the nightmare realm though....that's an interesting thought. but why bill wants to bring that over and what he'd get out of it is unclear. what will the nightmare realm bring forth? how is going to come? is he even bringing it over himself? is the nightmare realm just gonna leak over some other way? are the 10 prophesied individuals going to trigger it's arrival? we don't know.
before you say anything, i just want to state why im referencing this book. with some franchises, outside media such as comics for example may not be considered canon, which could include Gravity Falls and this very book. For any argument about whether or not this book may be canon, I say yes. my main source is in some of the codes referenced in recent episodes. 3 codes in the book have prophesized certain little tidbits that came true. one said that Grenda will marry rich, another claimed that the Mayor is not long for this world, and that the end of the world is closer than the end of the summer. try and argue that!
for what bill's plan is and what role each member of the wheel will play, i really don't know. we don't have much information to go off of, and im not a big fan of making wild fan theories without the proper evidence. it just sounds like fanfiction to me. until more hints and clues are littered around, or we just see his plan actually put into action, i can't really touch this subject. personally, i think i'd like to just wait on it a bit longer

Marijane-Akuma In reply to TheKawaiifan [2015-04-01 22:12:38 +0000 UTC]
(I´m sorry if it´s hard to follow, my mind is pretty jumpy today)
I don´t plan to argue against the hints in the book - which I really would want to read, but I can´t buy it yet, uuurrrgh - since the things I saw through screenshots or red somewhere became true, like the thing with Grenda for example.
And I want to make one thing clear, which I guess I forget to mention: I don´t >really< believe all of the theories, I just find some really interesting^^
Also, ya said, that if Bill really needs all the things on the wheel but then he wouldn´t have gone after the journals in "sock opera", I think you missed one thing - he never said he´s going to destroy them, has he? (My memorie might be treacherous here, though) And even if, that could be a lie to trick Dipper. Either way, I´d like to go with the theory that Fiddleford is the glasses and Stanley is the book, since he first: has goddamn six fingers and second: wrote them. Pretty sure bout this one, but I wouldn´t really mind if this one is going to be proven wrong in the future.
But oh wait, if Stanley represents the journal in the wheel and not the books themselves, then it would be okay for Bill trying to destroy the journal, since the journal aren´t represented in his wheel. Also it COULD make sense that he (as theorized) shoved Stanley into the portal/was the reason he disappeared in there, because he KNEW Stanford would bring him back AND to get him out of the way, before he discovers something he shouldn´t, which was why he wanted to get the journal from Dipper, - he was about to discover something and Bill didn´t want it - so what if Dipper is in Bill´s eye a bigger hinderness than Stanley? Or he thinks he would conclude it (whatever it is that he obviously hides) earlier/faster?
Then the thing with the end of the world before the end of the summer - we´ve seen the future - it´s somehow postapocalyptic. But I guess that´s more because of the time baby - funfact here: have you red the text that is shown in "irrational treasor"? When Dipper helds the file with the Northwest-guy? The time baby is mentioned in there XD
But back to what I wanted to say: Bill said "abnormal soon will be the norm" , and "soon" is "before summer ends", the maybe not the WORLD goes down, but the WORLD WE KNOW. Remember when Soos points at the countdown and he refers that one song? They sing the world as we know it is going to end. Not the world tself, whcih would explain the future we already saw. So maybe, even if Bill succeeds and brings his nightmare-realm or whatever into the real world, he won´t destroy or how-ever end the world. And I guess you think now - what´s her evidence? Well, I don´t have any more than this here -.-. As for the reason why Bill would want to do this (IF he actually does want to do it) maybe it´s a simple explanation, maybe it´s not that complicated: he´s insane. He even says it. Insanity needs no reason to do something deranged or irrational. Hell he would find it funny - he calls it a "party", which, if you find nearly everything funny because you´re insane, would be a fitable discription for a nightmare realm, even more so if he is powerful in it.
Also scratch the idea that he wants to kill the represents. That was... yeah, plain stupid -.-, but I still think the theory that he needs all of the represents for something big (if it´s his plans, the nightmare-realm or something else doesn´t matter right now) is the most believeable one I found until now.
A whole another thin: I´m sure you´ve heard of the "Bipper comes back" theory, right? If not, a short explanation: in the last episode, not what he seems, some screenshotted the moment before the light flashes and it seems they´re all ereased. Dippers pupils dilate in the same way they were when Bill was in posession of his body, THEN the light set in and THEN the rest of his body was stretched. Others say that´s bullshit, because the pupils of the other characters dilated as well. But then they argue back that, even though all of their pupils dilated, Dipper´s did BEFORE the light really set in and/or the rest of his body stretched.
To add to that theorie, there´s the thing when Mabel is about to decide wether to press the button or not. Dipper tells her to listen to her head. Why wouldn´t he ask her to trust her? Mabel does trust her brother more than her uncle, or at least I believe so as well. If Dipper had asked her to trust him, then she would´ve listened to him, wouldn´t she? Trust plays a big role in the series, even more so because of all the things that would bring one to not trust anyone, for example the books. Why would someone write this in there? Or the shapeshifter, though he was frozen, the machine could break or the power is cut off. Anyone with just a hint of dark thoughts would get paranoid in this town. Back to the main point: Dipper is a person that´s serious, Mabel not so... I mean, Dipper makes decisions after what his head tells him, Mabel decides what her heart tells her. That´s the counter argument. That Dipper tells her to listen to her head instead to trust him because he makes decitions this way. The supporters of the thoery think he said it because Bill made him so (assuming he is halfway possessed or whatever, idk) because he does not possess feelings (don´t say - then why can he get angry: because demons are all over the deadly sins, wrath is a sin, simple. Bam.) and thus doesn´t play on the deep trust between the twins. Others say he said it... no wait, we already had that. Anyway, what do you think about that Bipper-comes-back theory? That he is alrady possessed somehow OR it´s a hint that Bill will come back soon and possess poor Dipper. The suppoerters of the theory that Dipper will turn evil or at least his back against his family (because of all the dark thoughts, the paranoia, the disappointment of his sister to listen to him which she did not and the betrayel of his uncle about the portal and stuff) support this theory as well, as a possible way to make him turn against them because Bill makes him/ he changes the sides and lands at Bills. So what do you think? (It´s fun to thoerize with you, btw XD)

Nope. Your not going off the deep end. THIS is the kind of treatment of the show that Alex Hirsch wanted. THIS is one of those shows where in depth analysis is part of enjoying it. Of course, the series is still accessible and doesn't require this much to be read into, but all the extensive foreshadowing of future events and symbolism would be lost on some people. (Remember back when the original mystery twins theory was considered a bogus theory?)
Also: Wax Larry King was right, Llamas really ARE nature's greatest warriors! We just don't think highly of them because A: South America is second only to Africa in third world country fodder and B: "Llama" is just a funny word to say...
By the way, It has been over a month (In show time) since the wax murder incident, wax Larry king's head was last seen hiding in the vents (missing an ear), and the mystery shack has been torn up and repaired a couple of times now through major catastrophes. (Both Literally and Figuratively) I wonder what happened to him...

i'd be amazed if he's still alive. i mean, remember the intense heat wave in the deep end? it melted wax stan, and it was implied that stanford didn't exactly have a working AC. he's probably also had to put up with ear-stealing rats, candy monsters and government surveillance. if he's still in the vents somehow, then i'm going to need a darn good explanation for his survival.
the dipper clones have a better chance of having survived the last several episodes than wax larry king. it's possible they may have found shelter during the rainstorm in dreamscaperers

Maybe he's just a pile of sentient wax somehow, now that you mentioned it. The cipher said "He's still hiding in the vents." but we never got an idea of how long he's been there. (We're midway into season two and still no signs!)
It's kind of never shown or told how long the Dipper clones would last. The only episode they shown up in took place over one night, and we never seen any of the clones "expire", they were just killed by unnatural causes (even one of those kills was accidental suicide!)
And now that you brought it up, I feel like that one of the dipper clones is going to be separated from the other one and he's going to find him and then accidentally stumble across the secret bunker that the shapeshifter is hiding and...oh my god.
