Buried deep within lies the vessel's beating heart. The towering machines are alive with the thrum of starfire contained within. Energies fit to traverse between worlds are harnessed by the core, channeled through the plasma arteries of all drives throughout the ship. Heat and distortions strain against containment from within, shackled by the charged walls of their chambers and carefully controlled.
The engine room is a realm onto its own, the surface of a maze of conduits and maintenance shaft leading ever deeper into the labyrinthine spaces between decks. Machinists and automata in shielded suits, some bound to the machine, dwell in those deep places, keeping the vast flames in line.
