Tantalizing sparks of color lure starships to the siren stars. The inescapable allure of mystery precedes them, veils of dense nebulae and glimpses of strange clarity holding the promise of bountiful worlds. Golden, dancing sparks like cosmic will-o-wisps mark routes to these promised shores – but seasoned travelers beware, for they know those stars' treacherous nature.
Many a ship was lost to the cosmic siren song of those systems. Victims of the sirens find themselves trapped on the edge of an unknowable horizon, staring into an abyss glimpsing other universes. From that place, there is no return, as time and space stretch into infinity.

These and other tales are born among the weary crews of vessels months away from safe harbor and shore. Engrained in the beliefs and folklore of the Century Worlds, they grow only into more and more fanciful legends. Against this darkness of the world they inhabit, the pioneers and explorers hold their faith dear. It is an ill-defined phenomenon spread across the colonies – a rise of rites and traditions, even cults of strange descriptions, conjured by those who went longest without seeing the homely light of Sol.
