Description
This drawing was done with pencil on 11x14 bristol paper. I found the smoother paper worked better for blending the darker areas. Any advice for improvement would be appreciated. Many thanks to Laura for letting me use her photo for reference. [link]Jan. 11/2011

Felt like crying after I saw this...... you are amazing.... Just amazing. for a moment I actually thought this was a black and white photograph. Then I was like.... wow. true talent Da has here. Hope you get recognized by someone.... I love the eyes.... Im sorry but her eyes made me almost want to DROOL!!! They are beautiful!!! <3 you drew them so well... the eyelashes are magnificent! and the ring stands out so well... But what i love the MOST. Is the hair... The hair just .... It flows perfectly... As if someone is actually lying their own hair on the paper. Just well done... Perfect. Bravo. I usually am very blunt and rude on pictures and rarely comment but ... Wow.

ok as you wanted some advices i will try to give some. The drawing is very good by itself so i wouldn't say something is wrong, until I checked the reference photo... I will put pressure on details.
1. Your shape of the eyes is a bit different then the original one. you made the eyes more spikey, while she has more curved (more oval).. as we know eyes are the soul of drawing so that's the biggest issue in your picture... also the shading on the eyes is different than on the original pic... it might be scanner issue as well tho
2. nose shading is a bit wrong compared to the reference photo. right side should be brightened and left side darkened a little bit.
3. I would darken the lips a bit. Also the lines on bottom lip (especially the left side) i would do more like "(" sign that would show us better her nice lips... just check your right side of the lips, its well done there.. on left side your lines are more like / than ( ... which makes the lips a bit flat, not best looking. Don't get me wrong, it's looking good but we are talking about drawing from reference photo - so we try to draw as its on photo)
4. last but not least. her arm is a bit to thick imo ... I would make it thinner on the left side from wrist downside. It's pretty easy to do as her hairs are very dark there so just darken few mm of arm on the left side...

Thanks for taking the time to write this. I really appreciate it. Some of the things I was aware of but I didn't want to mess around with it too much. I have a problem with not darkening the shadows enough but I've been working on it. I'm not sure what you meant about the eyes but looking at it I can see they're not the same shape as the photo. I think next time I might try drawing in the eyes lighter at first so I can get the shape right and then darken them up. I don't know. I'll see if I can fix the other parts but I don't have the drawing at school with me right now. Thanks again for your help.
